I have heard that 10lbs of bw usually equals about an 1inch onto your arms. This can be true in some cases,as far as bf, i went from 145 @ 7% in 2000 to 198 @ 12 in 2006 with 1 1/2 years off in between due to injury, which was 2003-04. So i almost doubled my BF,but ive doulbed my size as well. Im not starting to cut as soon as student teaching finishes in another 2 weeks. Best, Ryan

New to board. Good article! Just finished my last contest of the year (placed in top 5 in 3 contest this year), and would like to take next year off to take on as much lean mass as I can, then start to cut in 2008 for contest in summer of 2008. I'm 5'2", 49 years old, lifting for 3 years. Problem/question: I have a har time with dairy and digesting red meat due to divertiulitis and acid reflux. I can do it in small amounts, but must be very careful, otherwise I end up bloating and feeling like crap. Any suggestions/ideas?
Thanks again for the great article!

I just do my best to avoid them. I have a very unconventional diet.. Thanks again for the great article!

I would avoid the dairy if you can and if you need calcium take a supplement. Are you able to eat yogurt or is it all dairy that sets you off? If you find you cannot stomach red meat, your creatine stores may also get depleted so if your stomach can take it,adding in a creatine powder may also help you get stronger/bigger.

I do try to avoid red meat in mass quantities. I tried Ostrich and Bison, and as long as it's smaller portions, I do ok. I'm fine with yogurt and Cottage cheese. It's just the milk products that do me in. I try to supplement with Liver Tabs, and BCAA's, and creatine, although I find the micronized creatine is more readily digestable. Beckie/Rubicon: Thanks for the input. Any other advice for putting on lean mass? I'm open to whatever ya got!

The things that help me build muscle are more carbs and adequate sleep. When I want to add mass I bump my carbs up to 300-350g a day from 250g and make sure I get at least 8 hours sleep!
