Hello all,
Quick question about tanning products. I am currently tanning daily in a booth. The last week I have been told to apply 3-4 coats of pro tan. Starting Wednesday, apply first coat. Thursday, apply 2nd coat. Friday. apply 3rd coat. Take shower between Wednesday and Thursday coats. No shower for rest of time after thursday's coat. Saturday morning, apply 4th coat if needed. If touch up, use dream tan #2. How does this sound for a script for the last week???
Also, apply to face on last coat Friday.

Here`s how I apply PT with a Sat. contest in mind: Mon.- Shower, exfoliate with loofa sponge, and shave entire body in AM. Wed. Shower and remove any stubble with razor,or spots you may have missed. Apply one coat, let dry in afternoon Apply another coat and let dry ,early evening NOTE: be careful not to apply immediately after shaving, because it could irritate the skin .............wait an hour or two................get up early to do this step. Thurs.- Shower, but do not scrub, wash underarms and private areas with soap but only scrub gently so as not to remove too much of the PT. Put on two more coats after showering.................letting each coat dry thourougly before applying the next one. Fri.- Shower(same as above, and get up extra early) Apply two or more coats as needed.........let dry well between coats.(always do this or you`ll get a build up and it`ll look blotchy) Shave your face on Friday night so as to avoid irritation when you apply PT to the face on the morning before the contest. Sat.- Day of contest- touch up areas, get to the venue and spray a small amount on applicator, put on face, repeat as needed, and blend is as good as possible. One coat on the face, hands, and feet is all that is normally needed as PT darkens over time.

Tim, that was excellent advice and exactly what I needed to put that issue at rest.
THANK YOU.

One step further. How do I coordinate this with my training? I guess by wednesday I will be done anyway. I was going to start my depletion workouts on Monday and go through Wednesday. When do you recommend shutting down cardio???

You could train in the am,go home and shower then apply the tan in the afternoon. Everyone is different with the cardio-I stop on the Tuesday before a show so my muscles don't look too flat...

A couple of other things--Pro Tan does come off so beware on clothing and bed sheets! I pretty much did as Tim says but still found I wasn't as dark as I wanted, especially under bright stage lights (although I was darker than many others; some guys put only one coat on right before the show and you could really tell--very light). I put a coat of Dream Tan on before the morning and night shows, then lightly spray Pam for a good sheen. The problem is that Dream Tan will streak and you can easily wipe it off, say, when you're doing a most muscular hands on hips pose. Not good when you're taking off your tan while onstage! I think tanning before will really help you out, then just do Pro Tan as you've planned.

A little tip on the dream Tan-after you have put your final coat on and let it dry, spray some hairspray over the top-this helps it adhere better!

Lots of great advices in here! The only thing i can add is that i do not use tanning bed anymore! First i hate to it and second, in my mind it's useless if we apply coats of Pro Tan!
Here is my typical tanning schedule:
Wed (at night) Shaving + last shower and exfoliate
Thursday 2 coats of Pro Tan or Spray Tan in a tanning salon (ask for a thick coat)
Friday 2 coats of Pro Tan
Saturday 1 last coat if needed Dream Tan coat and oil (or PAM) before going on stage

And when you oil up,don't oil the whole body-just areas you want to highlight like inner quad, upper chest etc...

I have simplified my tanning process. I get as dark as possible from a tanning bed or the laying out in the sun. The night before the show I shave nice and close, the next morning I just use dream tan.

I think I am going to go with the Pro Tan/ Jan Tana combo. I really do not like the dream tan look....
How about those heating type gels?

Randy, are you talking about a vasilodator like Hot Stuff posing oil? If so,I use it and it makes my vascularity crazy and I can keep a pump longer if I have to wait to get onstage which is almost always the case.

I used hot stuff and It worked well when I got on stage and I pumped up using my resistance bands. I think you can see a bit on my pictures.

Instead of Pro Tan spray, there is a Dream Tan spray that goes on much smoother than the Pro tan. I have seen alot of competitors go blotchy and streaky from Pro Tan but the Dream Tan spray(not cream) seems to not do this.

Bro,
I used 3 coats of protan, put on by my wife, and then I did my face with Dream tan #1. Worked out great. I also tanned in a bed for a month before the show.

It is a pain. For my last show I decided to simplify it as much as possible. One coat of ProTan the day before the show, in the morning. Shower later that afternoon but don't soap up or scrub. Apply another coat in the late afternoon and sleep in it. I showered the next morning (day of the show) but a lot of people don't. I can't stand not showering, though. Again, no soap or scrubbing. At the show one coat of DreamTan #2. My wife usually helps me but she couldn't be at the last show so I bought a long-handled paint roller (about a foot long with a small, sponge-like roller) and used that, especially for on my back. It worked great. Spray a little Pam on the important parts, but not anywhere that you might touch with your hands or you'll smear it. Let the Pam sink in, don't rub. That has worked the best for me by far and it was also the simplest. Before the night show just add extra DreamTan to areas you might need it and a little more Pam and you're good to go. Also, I did just one coat of ProTan on my face, then the DreamTan as with everything else.
