Hey all,
I'm visited the board a year or two ago; sort of lost track of it, now I'm back
I rethinking my diet. As a kid I craved bread, I mean CRAVED. I would roll it up and eat it five or six slices at a time. Anything starchy specially if it were combined with salty and sweet. In the early 90's I joined a gym, made some progess but never really looked good until I reduced my carbs...but it was like someone hit a switch. I was always a chubby kid and was never used to getting compliments but suddenly folks were noticing my rack. Sounds stupid but for someone not used to that it was potent stuff.
Anyway some other things took me away from the gym (fear maybe should be included) and here I am. I know the popular press has a field day with a low carb diet but I feel, look AND think much better on it. I'm able to concentrate better and my mind doesn't wander around like I've got ADD.
Anyway, I'm gonna follow my instincts and do low carb. Anybody got any thoughts; I'd welcome them.

Thanks,
It's great to be here. Life is back on track...bought a car, I'm living a nice apartment in a great, quiet neighborhood, after paying off some bills and making some financial amends I'll be debt free.
So it's time to stop selling my self short and get back to the gym. This sounds arrogant but it's not: I was meant for better things than to go thru life flabby and unhappy. It took me awhile to get life sorted out to this point. Enough of my personal saga.
I'm gonna start shopping for a digital camera to post some starting photos; as soon as I get one I'll start posting. Encouragement, or chop busting when needed, will be welcome.
Thanks All!

Nice to hear that your life is getting back on track! Sometimes we go through things in life that help get us back where we need to be! I do not think you sound "arrogant" at all.

I read and followed, Duchaine's BodyOpus when it published in the early nineties.
The two weeks are the tough part, every sweet or starch I have ever enjoyed gets fondly remembered. Cheap, diet pop in flavors: orange, grape, whatever that green flavor is helps slay the sugar cravings alot.
I'm going completely carb free for a month to re establish my insulin response then will reintroduce wet carbs (colored, non starchy vegetables) slowly.
As far as the banter between Mo and Rubicon: doesn't bother me a bit; makes me feel welcome and part of the crowd. As of Monday, May 22nd carbdown starts. That howling noise y'all here will be coming from the Midwest, Columbus OH, when I'm craving cheap cookies...which got me my flabs of steel that I've got today!
I'll keep posting around here.

Well......crap
Today at work we were told, in a group meeting, that our jobs were officially outsourced.
Security met us as we all packed up ours desks and escorted us from the building. But, I as I drove home I collected my thoughts, said a prayer, and started applying, stopping off at places as I drove home from just getting laid off permanently.
So.....three hours after applying one place, they call me for an interview and drug test, and I have orientation Monday. It won't be as much money (about half) but it will be afternoons and evenings leaving me free to get my resume updated and search for another job; this one will have to get me by for a bit.
I'm gonna keep the faith and try to find something part time in the mornings to make up for the loss of wages, in addition to the new job. I stopping my gym membership tomorrow to economize and can use my Oly bench and basic 300 pound set in my basement. Not the course I was charting but the yardstick I have always used is hard times is this:
"Is this the one that's gonna get me?"
No.
Hard times forge people.
Anyway, I'll post when I can. Having the Oly set in the basement limits me to a real basic routine of compound movements but what better starting point could I use.
Thanks all for your comments. I'll be around when I can.
Best,
TonyB
