As I've already privately told Tim, I guess I'll share with all of you also...
I am offically retiring from competing in bodybuilding. This will not mean I am leaving bodybuilding... far from it. It has become my passion and hobby. Something I can do 24/7 365 days of the year if I want to (and can find a gym open on Christmas morning). I will be sitting at the judges table from now on and perhaps someday promote a show of my own. I will also try to help other up and coming young (and old) bodybuilders with diet, training, posing, and contest prep as I can. I don't want to make this a full time job as I already have a very busy and successful career plus a family I want to spend a lot more time with, but I will be selective with my clients and hopefully can encourage others with great potential onto the stage some day.
I will also try to stay active on the bodybuilding boards I am a member of, offering my two cents worth on issues confronting the bodybuilding arena. If you have a specific question about training, diet, or contest prep I'm always here to listen and respond when I can. If I don't get back to you right of way, give me a gentle nudge or a swift kick (my wife does both when I'm snoring at night)... it'll usually get my attention.
Again, I thank everyone for their kindness and encouragement. Your well wishes have been greatly appreciated.

Good for you, Randy. have nothing more to prove to yourself or anyone else about your competitive excellence. You will always be a champion and a positive role model in any capacity you choose.
Best always to you and your family.

Brock I have helped several local people do well in shows and I'm planning on helping others in the future on a selective basis .... I don't want to take on too many but I'll be glad to answer limited questions you may have. Just ask. For a complete precontest prep it would have to be done over the internet, which I have never done so I don't know how well it works. It's better done in person but you'd have to live not too far away from Minnesota for that to work... and it seems like everyone lives far away from here.. (or they should). nuff said...

A shot of Randy battling it out for the Over-50 overall title. Looks like it could have gone either way between him and Hampton.............apples and orages if you will. Pics courtesy of www.davepalumbo.com

So many times it is apples and oranges, which makes judging difficult. Hampton was in the best shape I've seen him, but Randy was very competitive.
Way to go, Randy!

I'm never one to try and second guess the judges decision... I only try and figure out how and why they made their decisions. From what I've heard James Hampton has always had trouble "getting it right" on stage and while he has placed in the top five, he never got over the hump and had it all together. Some of said he did it this year and perhaps the judges decided to reward him for doing so. You can't blame them for that.
