I just started doing these with weight, as part of my new routine, which is designed to add some mass over the winter.I started 3 weeks ago with a 25 pound dumbell for 10 reps. This week I did ten reps with a 60 pounder. When I was a kid at about 126 pounds, I did 3 reps with the 100 pound dumbell, people used to ask if I was going to do Donkey Calf Raises with the weight, and freaked out when I replied no ,just some dips.I guess I didn`t look too strong at a whopping 126 pounds!! ;DMy goal is to use that 100 pounder again for 8-10 reps.

I'm sure you'll work up to over the 100 pound mark for reps TJ. ;D

I have never had success with the dips for chest They have always hit my triceps and since I have other exercises I like better for triceps I don't do the dips at all. Sometimes at the end of a chest session I will do some pushoffs a low wall at it really allows for a nice lower chest contraction but as soon as the angle change from say my body at a 45 degree to upright the little bast*rd triceps come rushin in

Weighted dips? If I try dips it "is" a weighted dip! Sadly my left shoulder doesn't allow dips anymore, at least bodyweight dips (of course I drop about 40 pounds that could change!LOL) Seriously though even back in my youth when everything was still holding together nicely dips were my favorite upper body movement. But any time I added weight I always strained my elbows, even though I could do them. I have no doubt you'll be using that 100 pound dumbell in record time Tim! Ken you sound like my old training partner, shoulder and triceps take over on pressing movements. Are your arms short also? But on Gironda dips we isolated the chest...BIG TIME! I don't need to go into wordy explaination, Larry Scott in this picture shows exactly how to do them. Head down, feet forward, V-bar, hands placed as shown... Oh Lordy Mamma!

I`ve tried these again and again over the years hoping for a different response but they always felt weird and kinda` hurt my elbows!

Perfect example of what works for one doesn't work for another! Gironda dips hurt your elbows Tim, no problem for me (when i could do them) And you can do regular weighted dips and all they ever did was strain my elbows. Lesson to be learned !

I hear you brother! We all react/respond differently,to different things.I did 6 reps today with the 70 pounder, on regular dips.My power is coming back fast.I`ll do the 100 for ten deep reps even if it kills me. Did I say that? ;D

I've got to try those weird dips myself. I'm always fighting with my tri's like KenB so I rarely do them. I think these dips might be just the answer but the do look painfully awkward.
