How many of you guys use them..in what exercises?? Also what do you use...Wraps, Straps. Belts. good ol' chalk. squat suits, bench shirts etc. Although I use conventional straps for my heavy barbell rowing and occasionally lat pulldowns only, I have found versa grips pretty good.Been using chalk for my deads. I believe Timmy uses Meeko's straps which are supposed to be fantastic. Haven't had the urge to use the belts and the wraps so far. Imagine, back in the day if Reg Park had the opportunity of using bench shirts when he benched 500 pounds raw what could have been his bench or Rory using squat suit for some 700+ pounds which he used to. Mike Francois used to routinely perform 735+ pounds squats without any squat suit or knee wraps and the same holds true for another powermonger, Joe Deangelis.

I use a lifting belt for BB squats and my dead lifts! That is about it for me. My husband, from a male point of view, uses a belt for squatting and straps for a few exercises. He has wraps but does not use them a whole lot. Our gym does not "allow" chalk.

Hey:
I use wrist straps religiously on back workout days for rowing/pulling movements- I find that if I dont' use them on some movements such as rows, some of the emphasis goes on forearms trying to pull the weight- straps allow me to keep my wrist straight rather that getting a bit of a curl in my wrist.
I need to get knee wraps.
For deadlifts, i'll need to start using chalk and/or straps. Thanks to the guys here on the board pushing me to lift heavier- I'm starting to use weights on deads that is too heavy for me to keep a good grip on.

I believe most gyms don't allow chalk, don't they Karrie?

I believe most gyms don't allow chalk, don't they Karrie? I don't know about most gyms, I just know our gym has signs posted "NO CHALK ALLOWED." ;D But of course, there are guys who still bring it in.

i use a belt on heavy deadlifts and squats.
also, for back day i use straps for my heavier sets. no need to let my back workout suffer if my grip fails.

I believe in using straps for heavy or long (with many drop sets) back exercises if it helps someone reaching back muscles failure before forearms muscles failure! I know Randy will be tempted to say reel man doesnt need Straps… but I would like to remind him that he used my straps when he did his back workout with me in Montreal

I use a belt, straps or Meekos Power Grips, chalk at times if I`m in the backroom where no one can see me use the outlawed substance, and knee wraps on my heaviest squats and at times on very heavy leg presses.
My knees have been bad this year after having no problems with them at all for years.

I use straps for heavy pulling, or long drop sets. No belt though.
Unlike most guys though, I do wear gloves. My hands slip too much if I don't.

I use straps for heavy rows and deads-used to use a belt but felt it was actually making my lower back weaker not stronger!

Right now the only aid I'm using is Meeko Power grips on all pulling movements. Sometimes I use a belt. I don't particularly like wraps.

I have used a belt 2-3 times in my entire 10 years of working out. Never liked it at all, felt like it actually hindered my breathing and/or my lifting form. So, that's in the closet (practically brand new if anyone wants it....pay for shipping!). I use straps for back day, and they help a bit. Ironically I never used them till about 4 years ago, because I felt my forearms needed growth, and my forearms actually grew more when I started using straps and lifting heavier weight-I assume from the holding of a heavy heavy weight as a static hold. But for the most part, no belt and have NEVER used wraps. Just feel that if I do use them, it will make your body rely on them so when you don't have them you will be weaker or more susceptible to injury. You said a "brief" view, so, sorry for the novel!!!

The powerlifting newbie chimes in......
For training sessions I train "raw" or in a soft suit, maybe an underarmor type shirt on bench day. no gloves, no straps since they are not allowed in competition, just chalk on the hands and talc on the legs for deads.
on my other days I'll use straps for back and shrugs, wrist wraps on chest and militaries.
In response to Y-B's post, we have another newbie who is starting from scratch. despite the coaches suggestion , he started training using a belt from the get go. First time they pulled the box away and made him go *ss to grass, he threw his back out. no core strength.
I'm going for the old stongman trick of pinching two 45's together with my hand and lifting them. then I'll know my grip is good enough.
So till I'm told oterwise, minimal equipment for me.

For aids. I use my verrsa grips when I do heavy back. I use wrist wraps for bench and also elbow sleevs because my elbows have some slight tendonitis in them. I use Knee wraps when I go REAL heavy on legs. I only use a belt when I have to. Chalk.. well, I use tennis grip. Yeah you can buy those tennis type grips that is like gel and it's nice and no crap on the ground or bar. tinyurl.com/2jtosu
