Chanman has a thread about Lat pull downs here.
Got me thinking....
What do YOU ALL think is the BEST Lat exercise to bring out that wing-span? Especially for a front lat spread!
Any hints on getting that front lat spread to really POP-OUT?

for me, pull ups / chins with various grips are the best for my lats. Pulldowns just are not as effective.
I always found that the rows with a bar end stuck in a corner and using a v-grip handle as the best for lat thickness. I don;t do this one any more since it was also hard on my lower back.

Honestly, if we're talking just one exercise, I think it's deadlifts. It may not seem to make sense, but they kick the ever-loving crap out of my ENTIRE back.
Other than deads, I always like seated rows, or corner BB rows, which are very similar. Pull-ups are great too, although I believe in the Max-OT style closer grip. No need to go out wide, IMO.

pullups/chinups. deadlifts rows t-bar rows in the corner and V handle pullups to the left and to the right, coming to a complete dead hang at the bottom and then re-engaging the lats on the way up

I have to say exercises where i feel it the most would bring out the best in the back.
For me its Underhand pulldown, V bar pulldown, Assisted Pullups, underhand/overhand bent over bb row. And then you have DEADLIFT itself for the entire back.

Chins Rows Deads
However, everyone knows that I'm a firm believer in changin up exercises, angles, tempos, etc... with back. It's the largest body part and needs a great dea of variet.

If I had to choose just one exercise then without a doubt it would be barbell bentover rows.

Agree with the majority...
Rows (specifically, bent-over db and bb), deads and chins.
Deads and rows have done wonders for my lats recently. The amount of growth I've had from them makes me wonder if pull-downs ever did anything at all.

For lat width I like wide grip chins, close grip pull downs (palms opposing), and seated cable row.
I find these exercises even more effective if I flare the lats as in a lat spread, particulalry at full stretch in the range of motion, and use a thumbless grip.

Pullovers supersetted with Close grip pulldowns, one arm or BB rows, rack deads from knees-or lower make up most of my lat training.

Chins, Chins, and more Chins. You know it's got to be a GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT exercise when half the people in the gym can't do them, and the other half that can do them don't want to because it's "TOO HARD," man do I hate whiners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol, Vin.

The Rack Chins DC has in his programs are insane! There's something different about the movement aside from regular chins that really fire up the lats. If you haven't tried them correctly you should.
