How will it affect the pectoral muscles if I have my palms facing each other vs. palms facing my feet? Thanks

I feel it in my pecs more if I keep my palms facing each other. It feels like its more in my front delt if I do them facing my feet. I always remember how Arnold did his, pretend like you're hugging a tree! You don't have to bring them all the way together at the top. That helps keep constant tension on the pecs also.

If you had the palms facing your feet, that would be a dumbbell press, not a db flye. The weight is a lot different, and the motion isn't quite as wide. But much like a chin-up is with hands palms facing you, and a pull-up is palms away-though the same motion....the principle(s) is/are the same.

sounds like I want to keep with the palms facing each other style.
Steve, I have used palms facing each other for db presses and found they hit my front delt and triceps pretty hard. I did not feel them in my pecs. I also kept my elbows close to my sides since my shoulder was dinged up at the time. Never tried this way bwith elbows out to the sides.

how about keeping palms facing each other while doing DB presses? makes any difference? I've found that they are more difficult that way. Try doing them palms facing at the bottom of the rep and rotate to palms facing to the front at lockout. Max-ot style! You can do the same on flat and incline dumbbell presses also. It allows for a greater range of motion and it is more difficult.

But does it have any significant effect on the pectorials or does it actually involve the triceps to a greater degree than regular presseS?

I agree with having palms facing each other... i fact, at the end of the rep i will squeeze the bottoms of my hands together at the end, trying to squeeze the bottoms of the DB's together causing a nice tight focused contraction.

Occasionaly when we did these we were told to instead of just raising the DBs above our chest and back down, do try to touch your elbows together which made a huge squeeze at the top. Anybody else do it this way?
