Anybody been here? The Press GymI currently go to Bally's which actually, for them, has a great weights cage and has HammerStrength machines. It's very cheap, about 1/3 what The Press charges, but then again Bally's is about 1/3 the cost of every other gym here. I hadn't heard about this place, looks to be much more hard core. Allows chalk, trains power lifters, etc. It's near my work so I'll have to drive over and check it out. What brand are those? The yellow equipment...

I drove over and checked it out today. A nice guy working the front desk gave me a day pass that I'll probably use tomorrow.
This place is hardcore. All that yellow equipment? HammerStrength. All of it. 20,000lbs of free weights, a "big boys" room with DBs that looked like they go north of 200lbs.
Apparently Dorian Yates was in training with a friend a year or two ago.
After a quick tour it looks like it has everything and thensome; it's kept clean and orderly it seems.
I'll try it tomorrow and report back.

I did my shoulder workout there this morning. Not crowded and the place is pretty well equipped. In fact, there are a number of racks and machines I'd never seen before. There's a machine for working the neck, a number of different types of squat racks including hydraulic... and many different sized bars including thick grip, etc. And several bars with "squat only" written on them all clearly bent from heavy loads. The squat room has ample 100lb plates. A far cry from Ballys. The DB's look like they range up to at least 160? The place is grittier and more worn in some ways compared to Ballys but I suspect the hardcore folks like it that way. The music is metal! I spoke with the owner- very nice guy; he says about 10% of the clientele are power lifters, some BB-ers and some strong-man competitors. The rest are average Joe's. But I'd say that, of the dozen or so working out this morning, more were at least very serious hobbyists if not competitors. Note the woman squatting 245 and the power-lifter benching 405 for lots of reps. Gotta use a donkey calf machine for the first time. I went ahead and bought a 5 use card and will try one complete week there when I get back from business travel this week. If you're in the Twin Cities and need a serious gym, you might give this a try. By the way... lots of boxes full of head and neck harnesses, cuffs, belts, straps... just about anything you'd need but might normally not want to buy.
