I read an article about developing good symmetry. www.bodybuildingsecrets.com/articles/articles/symmetry_how_to_develop_a_classical_body_shape.phpOne that intrigued me the most was the section that talked about squats. It described me perfectly. I have a thick waist/hip/glutes ...and in the article it says heavy back squats is the cause of it....and I believe it. Right now I'm trying to get my symmetry together, especially in my "X" .....the top V. I was thinking about focusing on Front squats and give back squats a break for awhile. I do both front/back squats as of now.

its a good trade off. the back squat puts more emphasis on hamstings and post-chain.
front squats are more quad dominant.

sounds like a good idea Mike. I had a client recently who I had to stop squatting because her waist had got so thick it was ruining her V taper.

NEVER EVER trade one exercise for another. Unless you have medical reasons to do so, alternate them- not just swap them out because an article said so. Trial and Error Max! I've been preaching this for years....
Try it yourself, and if your quads respond for the better, keep doing front squats. If not, then drop them and/or use them for variation once you get tired of doing back squats. I know guys that can't do Reverse BB Curls....their arms get tendinitis from that faster than anything else. So, they won't completely stop doing them, but use them every 4-6 weeks just as an alternative to regular EZ Curls or DB Curls.
I love both variations of the squats you mention, but I would never replace one with the other.

I agree with YB. Use as many tools as you can, but don't throw any away unless they are injuring you. If you're doing front squats, don't forget Zercher squats as an alternative.
For good leg development, you need to work ALL parts of the leg.
THink of how many people say they want bigger "arms" and do a gazillion curls, but NEVER work their triceps.
Same with legs.
