Inventor of this exercise : Strongman Arthur Saxon toured Europe during the 1800’s showcasing his feats of strength on stage, popularized a number of exercises including the Saxon side bend With feet spread roughly 18 inches apart and pointed straight ahead, hold dumbbells above your head close together. With total control, bend to one side and repeat to opposite side. Range of motion will be very modest and you'll find this movement requires a much lighter weight than you'd expect. As you bend to the side, keep the torso tight and the weights close together. Keep rep count low as with the other lifts, generally using around six reps per side. Excellent exercise for oblique strength imo.Strong obliques are also helpful in keeping the torso rigid while performing activities like squats and ofcourse can help one in upping the poundages in squats and deadlifts too. This is one exercise which is always there in my workout regime.

Hey! One word of caution.....this exercise isn't as easy as it looks so initially go lighter ( you don't need to go heavy in this exercise anyway) and master proper technique. Peace.

Being a woman, I would never perform this exercise. I do not do any side bends at all. I do not believe in any side exercises for women as I believe it can build the waist bigger.
