One legged deadlift is a great assistant exercise to deadlift besides being a terrific hamstrings & glutes builder.
I generally do them on the olympic bar although they can be also performed with dumbells.
Key Points.......
Grab the bar or the dumbells. Make sure the weight is evenly distributed on the foot. Try to make sure that the knee doesn't travel beyond the toe.
Maintaining a straight spine get into a semisquat position. contract your glutes on the side working to maintain balance. Also flex your abs hard.
If you are using the bar make sure it is an inch or so away from the shins and if using the dumbells than it will be held side by side between your foot.
Hey! If you loose balance just drop the other foot down to regain your equilibrium.
I generally do 3-5 sets of 6-8 reps.

I pretty much do mine the way the lady is doing except that I use a barbell.

I've been doing these for years, since reading either a Poliquin or Pavel article. I do mine more like the man above, but I also hold one arm against my leg more or less for balance. I develop a rhythm similar to a pendulum and go from there.
