How much protein do you take in per day ,and do you keep track of it ,or is it just a "hit or miss" guesswork type of thing?

At a weight of 140#'s, I strive for 160 grams per day. And, yes, I keep *very* close tabs of all my macronutrients with a great software program. I also measure all portions. Like teedog, I am convinved that diet & nutrition is at least 75% of bodybuilding. This becomes even more important as we get older.

I hate to admit it but i don't count any calories, protein intake, carb intake or whatever. I just eat. I alter my diet through the number of meals i eat in a day. Not a great way to keep track of food i know but i don't have time to count every single calorie i consume.
M :)aybe in the future i will.

Hi Tj thanks for the diet info. Do you have any guidline to follow when measuring portions etc. I always meant to start counting calories but its so time consuming and I change what I eat too regularly at the moment. is there an easier way to guestimate how much you need to eat and how much you are eating? say for instance I currently eat 8 egg white and one yolk with three peices of white toast and margarine for breakfast I then have about a cup of rice with 400grm of tuna through the day and then dinner is usualy made by the misses and can be meat and three veg. I am currently adding in lean ground beef to try to gain weight so I'm not overly concerned with counting at the moment but any help would be great.

Radstar, The easiest way I found to calculate grams of protein, fat, and carbs, as well as calories, is to buy a book on nutrition and write down the info in a notebook.I usually follow a pretty set diet so I have gotten to know the macronutrient content of the foods I eat.I can guess at about 6 or 8 ounces of chicken and be pretty accurate, because I`ve measured it out so often it`s almost commonplace for me.You can find a good Nutrient database on www.bodybuilding.com or www.fitday.com Just do a search and you`ll find it.I would advise taking the time out to at least learn the amounts of protein in the food you eat, while it may seem hard at first or a waste of time, I think it is an invaluable tool to use to help you to progress. After all the hard work we do in the gym, it would be a shame to not reach your nutritional requirements. Also read the labels on the food you eat.Once you get it together it`s not hard to do.

Radstar, I forgot to mention that you should definately be eating more than just three times a day for best results.

Radstar-- I use an excellent software program to track my macro-nutrients. Once set up, it is extremely easy, fast and efficient. You can check it out at: www.bodyfitdb.com
