I never thought about this before, I just eat and not worry about if I'm wasting any protein because my body cannot absorb all of it in one sitting.
I eat up to 50g protein / 100g carb in one sitting when i'm bulking over 6-7meals.
I take advantage of every calorie I have into building something whether it be muscle or fat.
so my question is , what is the limit of protein intake in one sitting?

there is ALOT of debate about this and from what I understand there is no definitive answer as yet! Layne is looking into this as part of his PhD so if I hear anything I'll let you know... I take in 25-30g per meal but PWO I take in closer to 35-40g and my digestive system seems to cope quite well with that. You must have a speedy metabolism to take in all those carbs? I would look like a whale if I ate 600g a day

Well I used to take in about 600+ carbs ....6-8 meals a day when I was bulking last year. Worked really well , gained alot of muscle in certain areas like my chest and legs.
However I don't know if that diet was very healthy at all. I was drinking half a gallon of Fat free milk. 5whole eggs in the morning, 5 whole eggs at night (later on i changed back to using eggwhites and whole eggs with the same amount of protein). And I was pushing my body to the limit eating wise because it takes me almost an hour to complete 1 meal. Breakfast was the worst as I always felt like throwing up.
It was all worth it I say but I would not do that again.

I think the answer depends on all kinds of factors, including whether you're assisted or not, whether you're a big guy, relatively small or in-between, and genetically how well your digestive system copes with protein assimilation. Personally, I'm small and have trouble coping with any more than about 20-25g of solid protein in one sitting and this needs to be tempered with plenty of fibre and a moderate amount of carbs, i.e. no more than about 50grams in one go. However, I'm 37 and my body has changed over the last 20 years or so. When I was young I seemed to cope better with a little more, although whether my body was actually assimilating more is questionable. Assuming natural status, your body will probably cope with more protein first thing following an enforced fast and then as Beckie noted, post-workout. I know some naturals who consume around 50g of isolate or hydrolysed whey post-workout with about 100g of glucose polymers. Personally, I prefer about half that in liquid form and then follow this up with about the same quantities an hour later (as a solid meal), but that's my preference. At other times I wouldn't have thought your body would cope with any more than 25-30grams of solid, concentrated protein - tops, and this is why it's important to eat at least 6-7 times daily, at regular intervals. You can do a few things to enhance protein assimilation: one is to eat a little pineapple about 15-20 minutes before a meal, since the fruit contains an enzyme that will assist with the breakdown of solid protein; secondly, you can eat a little natural yogurt (containing pro-biotics) throughout the day, which will help maintain a healthy gut and keep the digestive tract in good working order. However, I wouldn't have thought you need any more protein than about 1 gram (maximum) per pound of lean bodymass and about 2-3 times this amount in carbs, depending on where you're at in your diet. The rest can come from essential fatty acids, especially omega 3s.

Agree with most of above, however, answering your initial question: "what is the limit of protein intake in one sitting?"
There is no limit. Whatever you can get down is the limit whether it's 50grams, 100grams, or 500grams. Now, how much you can assimilate is a different question. There is no answer. It depends on the person--body weight, activity, energy requirements, muscle mass, kidney and digestive tract function, etc. I don't think we'll ever have a specific answer to this question.

Deang ~ Q-Bob,
Good comments. I've never heard of the use of pineapple as a precursor to the meal to assist with protein. I know about the pro biotics route. I limit my red meat intake during off season for just that reason. Too difficult to digest. I need to be careful due to divertiulitis and acid reflux.
How do you think the acidity of the pineaplle would affect the acid reflux?
Comments?

Hi Frank, Pineapple shouldn't affect the acid reflux as it's an akaline-forming fruit, i.e. something that favourably impacts the PH balance of blood. The point of pineapple being a digestive precursor is that it contains the enzyme Bromelain, which helps with protein assimilation. Here's a useful link: home.bluegrass.net/~jclark/alkaline_foods.htmAll the best Dean
