Hi guys I am on a budget at the minute as I have recently fallen out of work, so was just wondering what you think of this diet I have roughly come up with and tbh it will probably need to be changed a little! The goal at the minute is not to gain but just keep my existing muscle mass and also in the process lose some BF if possible! Here is my diet as follows; Breakfast 6 egg whites with 2 whole eggs and 100g oats Snack 1 Tuna sandwich on wholegrain bread or multi-grain bread w/ low fat mayo! Dinner Rice with Chicken Breast (100g rice, 6-8oz Chicken) Snack 2 Wholemeal Pasta with Chopped Tomatoes and Chicken Breast (again About 100g of Pasta and 6-8oz of Chicken) Tea Meat (anything except for Lamb) with either Green Vegetables Or Salad. Before Bed 200g Cottage cheese, 3-4tblsp Peanut butter and low fat milk! So guys what do you think, and also what would you change if anything??? Please remember I am on a low budget at the minute so don't go over the top with things like the vegetables and also fruit etc as these things in the UK are fairly expensive! Cheers Guys

Personally, I think the diet looks good as is. If you're prone to putting on some fat with carbs, I would cut down on the carbs a bit and replace it with a bit more protein. Say, instead of the 100g of pasta and 6-8oz of chicken breast, I would have 60-80g pasta and 8-10oz of chicken. And do this with a couple other meals. But if you digest carbs fairly easily, and don't get fat off of them, then I'd keep it just the way it is.

Cutting/bulking? 4T of PB plus cottage cheese before bed totals some serious calories.

sorry I am trying to lose body fat but while keeping the muscle mass i have got so i guess you can say i am cutting in a sense! So what you say is to cut the carbs a little bit and increase the protein intake? What i will also be taking is a multivit in the morning and 2 fish oils with 2 apple pectin tabs with every meal! So do you think that this diet is ok and also how about the calories and macro's as i aint to sure how to calculate these, and i dont know if i am getting enough with this diet so here is a little about me i am 22 nearly 23 with a BF of about 25%ish I am currently 96kg which i think is 210lbs! I have been lifting now for about 6 month but have been training now for about 2 years different type of training though as i was doing resistant training and also circuits! Any advice appreciated cheers

This is a budget diet! ;D
Meal 1 2 eggs / 1 cup oatmeal
Meal 2 1 can tuna / 2 slices whole wheat toast/ salad
Meal 3 1 scoop of protein/ 1 piece of fruit
Meal 4 5oz chicken breast/ 1 cup of rice/ spinach
Meal 5 double cheese burger from dollar menu (mcdonalds)
Meal 6 1/2 cup cottage cheese/ 1 tbsp peanut butter
I'm not joking about the mickey d's burger. Heard from a fellow buddy of mine it is the most anabolic thing on the menu..

You could switch the peanut butter round into your third meal of Chicken and rice-that would reduce your fat content later in the day. And switch the cottage cheese to the light variety before bed.

Chris, you can do well on a budget mate. One good tip is to time it right when you visit the supermarket, just as they reduce the price on meat close to its sell by date Snap up a bargain and freeze it if you don't eat it right away. When you was doing the diatia its well known for being expensive, not sure if thats just down to the initial layout for all the herbs etc or just the general weekly cost of the food? Step back and think about what your body needs and how you can buy it on budget. It can be done, just takes a little effort mate

yh m8 it is expensive due to what you have to buy even without the cost of all the herbs as i already had most of them it is cus of all the different types of vegetables and also the different types of meat as you know yourself you are eating a load of different veg and also a different type of protein every day (even though it does work it is not really budget able at the minute) Like your suggestion on the Supermarkets lol

I like that Chris, you gave us some great infos, so it's going to be easier for us to give you our point of view! I would also say that the general lines of your diet are solid! But do not forget something, you wont lose weigth (fat) forever with the same diet, you'll have to constantly change it to force your body to adapt!
That being said, here is a couple of pointers for you:
- I like low fat Milk and peanut butter, but earlier in the day. I would keep these for meal #2 #3 or #4
- Whole grain Pasta is a good healty choice, but when trying to lose fat, I wont recommand it! I prefer Brown rice, Quinoa or Red potatoes.
- I'm not sure of the macros of your meals because I usually count my rice and aotmeal in "cups" instead of "gram". But I would suggest you to try not to have more than 45g of carbs per meal, excepted for the last 2 meals where only vegetables (or salad) and cottage would be the best!
"What i will also be taking is a multivit in the morning and 2 fish oils with 2 apple pectin tabs with every meal!" That's excellent! Also think about a Fiber supplement!

Cheers intensity thats why i am using the apple pectin for the fiber, would you suggest that i have something else as well for the fiber? Also where you said that you would have the rice instead of the pasta what is the reason for this if you don't mind me asking? The reason why i said i was going to be having the peanut butter and also the low fat cottage cheese with low fat milk was i thought that this had slow and also fast digesting proteins for over the night! I was also told that even though i am having eggs in the morning that i should have a whey protein shake first things as i have just gone through a "fasting" state, whats your opinions on this?

Cheers intensity thats why i am using the apple pectin for the fiber, would you suggest that i have something else as well for the fiber? No it's fine! Just make sure that you keep having it while dieting. In my opinion, these are a must, as much as Multi-vits and Fish oil! Also where you said that you would have the rice instead of the pasta what is the reason for this if you don't mind me asking? Both are complex carbs, which is good, but you'll have to have a very, very small portion of pasta if you want to keep the total carbs amount relatively low! For example, 45g of carbs is 1/2 cup of cooked brown rice... or 1/3 cup of cooked pasta, sauce not included! So, i'm pretty sure you'll still be hungry after that portion of pasta compared to brown rice! The reason why i said i was going to be having the peanut butter and also the low fat cottage cheese with low fat milk was i thought that this had slow and also fast digesting proteins for over the night! When you have at the same time a slow digesting food with a fast digesting one, you wont have the best of both worlds... in fact, the digestion time will be the average of those 2 products! That's why you want to go for a slow digestion meal only before bed... and a protein alone is going to get the job done! So in my opinion there's too much sugar in milk and too much fat in peanut butter for THIS particular meal (just before bed)! I was also told that even though i am having eggs in the morning that i should have a whey protein shake first things as i have just gone through a "fasting" state, whats your opinions on this? At this point of the diet, I would say that you dont need to worry too much about it! Eat the one you prefer or the more convenient one. If you push your diet a bit further later, you may have to think about it, try it and decide. But for now, I would say to just stick with the foods we talked about and eat the right quantity! That's going to be a very, very good start!

As Intensity said- veggies and cottage cheese would be OK... or just a lean protein, like another 6 eggwhites.
