I'm going to do a show Saturday, November 20, 2004. This is going to be my first show EVER! I'm excited and really nervous. I'm looking for all the help possible and am definitely picking the brains and following the rules/suggestions of Gerry and Tim. All others are welcomed. I'm also using some other bodybuilders for my corner, taking nothing to chance. It's in Michigan and the show is the North Western Michigan Classic. It's an NPC show. Anyone know anything about this? I don't want to be out of my league.

Good advice! Just keep on track and do all the homework! Training, dieting and in a few weeks posing practice.
I think the show is a national qualifier in the open divisions. Definitely enter your weight class in the novice division. Sure you won't be the only first timer. Same weekend as Nationals, could be an omen!
For now just go through your daily routine and don't get obsessed with it. We'll definitely stay in touch.

I'd suggest you film yourself going through the Mandatorys and send it off to Gerry ASAP. I have my camcorder on a tripod and have my wife read off the Mandatorys while filming. It's very helpfull and you'd be surprised how many mistakes you can pick up yourself.

Thanks guys!
Gerry, I plan on trying to get some pics this Sunday night if I can get my friend to shoot them. I'm gong to be going to my parents Thursday so I'll have my dad videotape my mandatories and relaxed poses. This is AWSOME!
I just spent $350 at Sam's Club. It sucked, but I got Chicken, salmon, talapia, flax, c/e, calcium/d, and some other very very helpful stuff!

Thanks Mike and that is AWSOME! haha. Maybe I'll give you a birthday present - a rookie on the board doing well in his/her first contest ever. I'm a little worried though because it is an NPC state show. I've been to teh Ohio State Bodybuilding Championships and there were some freaking STUDS there. The INBA show I went to in July, now I think I could have faired very well there, but then again, the latter was natural and the former, well we all know a good portion of the big guys are getting some assistance, not all, but it's not as even of a playing field at that level.

Kyle, the mind is the most importnt muscle we have. Try to focus inward and just concentrate on making yourself the best you can be.
You have no control over how the competitors look or how the judging goes down or who takes what. The real competition is with yourself, being your best and trying to improve for each show. Doing your best is the real victory.

UPDATE! Hey all, originally I was doing November 20, well now I'm doing October 30 and November 6. The November 20 show was a misprint and these are the only 2 shows close enough to do. One is in Ohio and the other is the Illinois State. Wish me luck still!

Kyle,Glad to see you back brother!! Stay focused and take the advice above and you can`t go wrong. PS-I still have to get over to VPX to see your pics but it`s been a bit hectic. I`ll hit it tomorrow and talk to The One at the same time about some business. Train hard and know that we are all pulling for you.

I know this started as a log for my contest, but it's been a long time coming for an update! I haven't kept up my log, but that's okay, I know where I'm at.
Just a quick update for those that read this. Saturday is my 1st show. 5 days away! I'm getting amped. A few bugs still need worked out w/ some posing and my routine. I've noticed thatI have a hard time controlling my left lat/shoulder/shoulder blade and I also have an assymetry problem w/ my left side being larger than my right side. My abs are not inline either. It doesn't look bad, EXCEPT in the relaxed pose, which is the most important of course. I need to fix this somehow and I"m working on it through presentation. Well, more later. Off to tan! Wish me luck.

It went GREAT ;D! I won the novice division and ACTUALLY got 6th in the open. I received the scores from the judges. Most had me between 4 and 6, but the head judge had me at 10 and it pulled me down I guess. My second show I tied for 5th. Lost on the 3rd tie breaker. I thought I deserved 4th in both shows (the opens that is), but I realized there are MANY things I need to work on an dI had a lot of positive feedback from guys that placed top 3 and from some audience members I didn't even know! Very positive feedback!
I posted some pics in the general board area I believe! I'll bump it to bring it up to the top.
Thanks for asking

CONGRATS Kyle! That's great for your first two shows! Now you have one of the menatl tough parts out of the way (conquering the nerves about getting on stage for the first time and questioning what it will be like), you can focus on what you know you need to work on for the future. You seem to understand what your weaknesses are, so get to work (after you enjoy a little break anyway LOL) and kick some ass next year!
So tell us, what did you eat after the show...oh wait, I'm dieting...I don't think I want to know....must be my stomach talking! Again, CONGRATS...what are your plans for next year? ;D

Plans for next year are up in the air, depending on the gains I get through winter! From just above the lower back up I dont think any middle weight will be able to beat me. I'm confident with that. From teh front I'm also confident not many guys can bring in an upper body package like me. Front to back my legs are THICK, good thick hamstrings, but left to right, I need more legs, more cuts, more density, more hardness, everything. I need bigger calves and I'd like to thicken up the lower back. I also need to get tighter from the lower back down as I was holding hella water/fat from lower back to hams to calves from the back. My plan of attack is this:
I'm adding dead lifts and heavy SDL's. I'm also hitting legs HARD as HELL! I should be able to get some GREAT gains as I hadn't done much squating, deading or SDLing in the last year due to 2 hernia surgeries. I'm balls out now, so I'm excited. I
If I have the gains I want, I'll due the Mr. Ohio and the Natural Northern in Sept and Oct. If I get some good gains, but not great, I'll hit up a natural show come middle of summer and shoot for the Natural Northern in April of 2006. That would give me time to relax and hit the Mr. Ohio and Fall natural Northering in the Autumn of '06! Sound GOOD?

I ordered a pizza to be delivered to the door and it got intercepted, sow we ordered another one and they NEVER brought it! I was MAD!
