Shows are probably 2 years away, but Tom and Brandon are both pushing me to start focusing on getting the competitive mindset.
There are 4 local shows, all NPC coming up in the next 6 months.
Iron Games NPC Oklahoma NPC Total Package NPC Red River
and a Weight Room only show- Total Transformation.
What do I need to be observing, learning, absorbing?

Brock,I`m sure I`ll come up with more to add here later, but I`d say get your posing down perfect long before you hit the stage.
Look at pics for the correct foot, hand, and head placement, to give the pose the proper lines, and flow............and also work hard on transitions,ie.,going from one pose to another, in a flowing fluid manner.
Hit some local contests and take mental notes and watch videos of contrsts for ideas.
I`ve seen some incredible physiques place terribly because the guy or gal didn`t know how to present their physique properly.
GerryT has some great posing advice !!

I think what helps me when doing a show is that on the quarter turns I do NOT relax at all and when they call out for a pose I hit it immediately instead of "setting up to hit the pose" you will see when you go to a show what I mean. I truly beleive if you hit the pose right at the moment it is called it getts the judges attention and they will see that. Also when I am aside if there are call outs I stay tense because the judges sometimes look for that as well. Absorb as much as you can befor doing a show it does help. Good luck in advance.

Brock, i would recommend to make some try! Take advantage of the fact that you have 2 years to experiment how you react to some kind of carb loading (and depleting) phase, water and sodium retention, etc.
And like Tim and ntr said... go to some local contest, observe and practice...
Good luck!

Like Ski said - posing. You can have the best body on stage with the best conditioning but if you can't show it then you may as well forget it. The judges can only see what you show them. Make sure your coloring is good too. I lost a couple of shows because I wasn't dark enough on stage. The darker the better. Shows alot more detail.

That's GREAT advice Carl. Never "RELAX" If you are doing 1/4 turns, hit them w/ VENGENCE and confidence. Hold the pose w/ POISE! Work on your posing so you look like you've been there 100 times before. Also, if you'r not in a "call out" and you're in teh back of the lineup, stay tensed and in that Front "relaxed" position sitting on your legs with your abs tight at all times. BE a FIGHTER up there! As far as hitting the pose right away, I've heard some say that and I've heard some people say, take your time (somewhat, not too much time) and set up teh shot because the semi-delayed movement may draw the judges eyes to you and you may be hitting the pose harder than the guy beside you when the judge looks your way. I guess that's a debatable topic, yes/no?....
