Hi everyone,
I'll be on stage next sunday and i have an interrogation about sodium! It will be my 3th years competing and i never ate food with sodium during contest day! But i would like to have your opinion about that... would you eat zero, moderate or a lot of sodium few hours before the show?
Everything went fine during my last contests and i know that i should'nt try to change a winning formula, but if it can help me to become better... maybe some changes can be good!
;D Flat with no water retention or full will water retention... this is the question ;D
Thank you guys
Mo

WOW! That's scary to play with. I know what you're saying, to come in HARDER and what not, but w/ your water depleted and potassium levels not to par adding or taking away sodium can cause cramps and other things ya know?
I just ate PLAIN food, no seasonings or sodium of any kind, however, i did have some Hydro Force before and there is a good deal of sodium in that. I dont know what to tell you.
I'm interested to see what others say!

Mo,cut sodium at 3 days out from the show.........after you drop your water, you should have no problem eating sodium as long as you take in zero fluids.......some sodium will make you look much better but only after you lose your water and stop drinking entirely.
I stop drinking all fluids at 5PM the night before the contest, after a week of deliberately trying to drink as much water as I possibly can..........I then drink nothing until after pre-judging.
Sodium eaten after water is gone, should not hurt you at all, just don`t drink or go overboard with it.
Good luck bud.........almost there!!

Thank for the quick reply!
Even if i know that there is no "correct answer" to that question (some will only eat clean food with no sodium... and others will eat pizza and a lot of sodium... and in both cases there is guys who achieve great results) i'm also interested to see what people in here think!

For now i have been taking plenty of sodium from last saturday to today. (during this time, my water intake is approx. 7-9 liters a day). Starting tomorow, i'll cut sodium completely but will keep my water very high ( 6-7 liters thursday and 4 liters friday until 3h00 PM... after that i cut every fluid except the water in my red potatoes). And this year i had the idea of doing what you just said: Taking a moderate amout of sodium saturday (on contest day)... So that why i'm asking people here what they think about that! Sometimes change is good ;D but sometimes you should'nt try to repair what isnt broke Thank again! Mo

No problem MO..if you take in sodium on Saturday, fine, just don`t drink anything as it will definately attract water.
The sodium should make you a bit more full and vascular.
Good luck buddy...................keep us posted!

Good luck buddy...................keep us posted! But Tim, the thing that make my doubt about sodium intake on saturday is that i heard that even if you dont drink water during the day, the sodium does an osmosis ("osmose" in french) effect and sometime can bring the intracellular water under the skin... I dont think that it's true... but that's why i asked! Mo

Mo,I wouldn`t go eat plain old salt on contest day but eggwhites or tuna which both contain a lot of sodium are not going to hurt you. Go over to www.intensemuscle.com and look in the "Experts Roudtable" discussion.....lots of contest prep gurus advise taking it........again if you`re not comfortabkle with the idea just skip it.......like you said,if it`s not broken, don`t fix it. I have eaten sodium containing foods with no problem on contests day,but as I said,I didn`t go overboard and intentionally take in a lot of salt.

Thank a lot Tim i appreciate 1) the time you allows me 2) The web site link you gave me 3) The correction you made about "you shouldnt try to repair what isnt broke" by "if it`s not broken, don`t fix it." ;D sometimes it's very hard to translate all those french words into english words ;D Seriously, at this point i agree with you: I think that by eating a bit of sodium it can just help me being fuller. And if i dont over do it... i wouldnt be a problem... i think... and i hope ;D But now, let see this intensemuscle.com ... Mo

Thank you Paul!
Anyway i realised that during my 3 years competing, the problem wasn't about retaining water, but about cramping a bit! So maybe i'll continu to add a bit of sodium during contest day (like this years).
Or (if we want to continu the debate ;D ) keep the sodium extremely low and drink a bit of water during the day??
