Hey guys. I blew this one. I cut sodium and water for too long and a health problem I have showed its ugly face. I had to withdraw or I would have ended up in the hospital. I should have known better. Two weeks ago for the Bodyrock I didn't cut sodium (just backed off a little) and I only cut water 15 hours out from the show. The result was the best shape of my life at 230 pounds. I plan to do the NABBA Nationals in 8 weeks and will use what I have learned from this fiasco. Funny thing about bodybuilding is no matter how long you do it, you are always learning and never fully figure it all out.

Hope your health is back or close to back to 100%. That's more imporant than 1 show. I feel for you though, doing all that work/prep and then having to back out. Well, at least you learned soemthing and that'll probably put you in even better shape for the NABBA's.
GOOD LUCK and keep us posted PLEASE

I've basically prepped for 3 shows. I did back to back shows in the last week of Oct and 1st week of Nov in 2004 and then I did a show just over a week ago. I had help on my diet and prep from 2 different people and things were COMPLETELY different. They both worked well. This last time I worked with bodyfx (Eric) and I will continue to do so. I was amazed at the way he could manipulate my body to do what needed to be done. We stayed pretty consistant throughout. We didnt' do anything major as far as water or sodium this time. The frist time I dieted for a show, I was loading sodium and pounding up to 4 gallons of water per day then we cut sodium and pulled water. Both times worked well. I did notice this last time that when I carb depleted I really flattened out and lost alot of vascularity leaving me looking smooth. I ended up filling out pretty well, but after a few binges after the show I looked much better. By Sunday, however, I had smoothed out considerably. This past time we didn't load sodium or cut as much water. I did feel I was tighter and looked better 1 week before. Maybe I missedmy peak, maybe it was my nerves. I just know I'm looking forward to working with Eric again to improve even more on the package I broguht this last time.

Eric, happy that nothing too serious happened to you…. I wish you the best for your next show, untill that, i will keep reading your posts with interest! And what do you think of my last reply regarding your post about fat intake in contest prep?
PS: Bump to Layne… have you any other comments about androgens?

My rule. Be ready to step onstage 1 week out, thus NOTHING drastic needs to take place the final week. Only small changes to fine tune. Fat should not be an issue, only the slight manipulation to where water is stored within the body.

I've always done somewhat of a drastic carb depletion and short carb load period, mostly having to make weight. In the end it hasn't been all that bad because I've discovered I can't take many carbs in and if I do I tend to spill over quickly. Fat loading works better for me.
This year I'm faced with a serious problem in that I'm planning on doing our state show one week before the Masters Nationals and I am unsure of how I will accomplish a carb depletion and load in that short period of time. I figure I'll have to go to zero carbs on Sunday morning until weigh in on Thursday night and then fat load to fill out. My worry is getting rid of any sodium I intake during the state show prep. How have others handled such back to back shows and with what success?

Randy,I would simply drink as much water as I possibly could immediately after the state show and right up until the night before the pre-judging of the Masters Nats............avoiding all sodium laden foods of course.
Keep carbs at zero or fairly low from right after the states to about two days before the Masters Nats then carb back up or fat load.
Fat loading is how I`m going in my next contest on June 10th..................carbs simply do not agree with me as far as cuts go..............even fairly low amounts smooth me out.
Have never really spilled over but have looked a bit smoother after reintroducing higher amounts of carbs after a depletion.
