Hey guys.... I'm 5 days out from my FIRST CONTEST! ;D ;D My question is concerning sodium...... What would be normal intake and what would low intake? My plan is carb deplete mon-tues-wed With some mild workouts.... normal sodium intake (whatever I normally eat) mon tues wed Lower sodium thurs (but what exactly would be lowish? how many mgs?) and then also friday and saturday would be close to none Carbing up thurs fri sat Water down to sips friday around noon. and saturday just sips

Ill,in my opinion, you should keep your water extremely high right up until Friday night.
You will get up in the night several times to go to the bathroom,if you are drinking enough.........and hopefully in the AM too.
Cut salt, and all foods containing sodium 3 days out............eat only chicken breasts, and whatever sodium free complex carb/carbs you eat the most often on your diet.
More water in = more water out!!
Cutting water too early will trigger the hormone aldosterone which will cause the body to hold on to water.........a survival mechanism to keep the body from dehydrating.
Cutting it down is old school and only works well if you are taking a diuretic.
Just my opinion,as there are lots of people who do things differently, but this works well for me and lots of people I know who compete.

Here`s a good article explaining the importance of keeping water high while reducing sodium. Kinda` scientific and a bit confusing but you`ll get the main point!! www.bodybuilding.com/fun/casi3.htm

Awesome, thanks guys. Right now for the past oh idk couple of weeks 2 or 3 my water has been fairly high, my body seems to use alot of it lol.... I do a gallon quite easily, and I weigh in the 150s..... Gallon & half is what I'm making sure I take in right now.
Now when you say keep water extremely high up untill friday night, extremely high, should that be 2 gallons a day for me maybe? And when you say night, about what time, night, would you say? Because I know I won't be sleeping much..... Thanks for the article too! I've read all I can really get my hands on, that's a real good one.
Thanks SO MUCH once again guys for helping me out, I REALLY appreciate it. Hopefully after my contest my crazy busy schedule will calm down abit and I can spend some time on this place, you guys are awesome!

Ill,by extremely high,I mean just as much as you can drink, without drowning yourself!! 1.5-2 gallons ought to do it if you`re used to drinking one gallon. On Friday, say around 9 Pm....it`s hard to say without looking at you at that time, but 9 is good IMO. Good luck, and we`ll be here when your schedule is back to normal. PS-Let us know how you do too!!

Ok cool, I had 2 gallons yesterday..... Now you say it's hard to say exactly what time without looking at me, what would you be looking for? Also my show STARTS at 7pm ends at around 10, I don't know what kind of effect that might have, most shows are in the morningish, I thought I should tell you that incase that might differ than at what time to stop the water chugging.....
I will be letting you guys all know how it goes, and I plan on taking TONS OF PICTURES of it all, my routine and everything I'm going to record too! : ) I can't wait to see that and then judge what I need to work on for my next contest!

Ill,don`t you have pre-judging in the morning?
If not,I would cut water at 9 PM or later if you are still awake.
Before the show,a few sips here and there, but only if needed drastically..........otherwise,sip and spit, just to moisten the mouth.
To see you,I would be checking to see if I thought you were holding a lot of water, and I would then advise stopping or continuing drinking, based on my thoughts on how you looked.

That's the crazy thing there isn't a morning pre judging... They just go through the classes, and then start over with mandatories, and then again go through everybody with their routine. Thanks for the help, I hope to be putting up a good showing.
