Right now I am training abs twice a week. Do you guys think I should kick it up to 4-5 days per week, to really bring them in?

At times I`ll do 10-12 sets twice a week.
Other times, just because it helps me from a physcological standpoint,I`ll do 4-8 sets 4-5 times a week.
I think that the abs are one area that you can train daily with good success...I`ve done it numerous times and they have looked better for it.
Just my opiniuon, but they recover quickly and can take it daily......again,just my opinion, but it works for me.

I just do core training and maybe a few oblique crunches on the ball.

Pre contest or not, keep your regular split for the abs! As you know, there is no "localisated fat lost" (i'm not sure of this expression) so diet and activity level will determine how much you'll see your abs! So if you want to do more abs training, i think it should be during your off season, when you are in a over caloric diet (sound bizarre, but it's true).
In my case, i do abs every 5 days

I have never trained abs except for one day when I was getting ready for a contest four years ago. AND IT SHOWS!!! I have made a promise to myself to hit the abs for a solid 6 months prior to my show next year. Not that the abs don't show up or are not there but the thickness and depth of the abdominal muscles that Tim displays is far and away better that what I have. It really seems to make the most difference when you are standing relaxed. When the abs are flexed they look fine but standing relaxed they seem to fade and blend making me look soft in the ab region.
Other than that I really couldn't comment on how much frequency a person should use when training abs.

I don't train my abs off season...pre-contest I'll train them at least twice a week. I've also trained them every day for the last 8-10 weeks before a contest, but I've found that I really don't need to do that......when all the bodyfat is peeled away they look the same training them 2x a week as 6-7 times a week.

Jeremy,I have always had good abs as a result of having a fast metabolism....that sadly has changed though with time!! ;D
Gotta` bust ass to lose bodyfat these days.
Keith,I think you are definately correct on ab training frquency, but for psychological reasons if I do them more often before a show I feel like I prepared better.
Used to do a ton of stuff but I have cut back considerably...my obsessive insanity is getting better!! #ainsane1rk#
