Do you prefer to do the side tricep pose by grabbing your wrist or your hand?

Actually can be done either way and still effectively show the tri. Some real big guys have trouble grabbing their wrist from behind them, so I usually recommend the hand grab.
Have seen competitors just tense down on the arm and usually judges had no problem with that either. Main thing is show the tri to fullest advantage.

Hey Rubicon19, you must be one of the bigger guys that GerryT states has a hard time grapping their wrist But I agree with Gerry, I've seen that the hand grab is just as effective as long as you show the tri to its best advantage!

I am having a real difficult time with his one!

Definitely, Karrie. Side tri is a mandatory for men and women and is done the same way.
Just my opinion, but for the ladies' prejudge I prefer the hand grab, but whatever way looks best for you is fine.

I have done it both ways and I find it gives me a different look in both poses. Next contest I will most likely do both during the pose. IF - big IF - I can manage to swing sides, I will do the hand grab type of pose to show the detail in my left tri and provided I pull it off, I will turn around and do the single arm extended with my right arm while hitting a hard crunching bicep w/ fist in front of abs (pseudo most musclar). With the single arm extended and with a slight twist it really creates a look of thickness and depth that I just don't see in the hand grab pose.

Absolutely, Sal. I've seen different people doing hand and wrist grabs and look totally different in each one.
I've seen Tim on stage and agree that his opposite hand side tri is very effective for him.
What some competitors have also done effectively is stretch arm straight out to show head of the tri and then pull back. Again it is a matter of doing what will show you in your best light.

I had a tough time with this one, mostly because every variation I tried torqued my wrist in a way that was uncomfortable so I really couldn't flex the tri well. Then I watched the "Animal Arms" DVD and at the end the guy does a side tri pose by locking the fingers of each hand into the other hand. I tried it and it works great for me. No pain at all.

The wrist grab is the best one for me,but I have ALOT of shoulder flexion so it is easy The hand grab doesn't bring out as much detail....try practising rotating your lead shoulder back more

Excellent point about flexibility, Beckie. And a good idea about shoulder rotation, if you can do it.
It all comes down to which position makes you look your best.
One great thing about this forum is the "meeting of the minds", where everyone shares their knowledge for the beneift of the entire community!

I have hypermobile joints so I find some poses easier than others...you should see my ankle overrotate when I try a front ab and thigh-ugly!

Sorry, i'm late on this one Randy!
In my mind, if your have a very striated shoulder, grab your wrist, it will put more focus on it. If your shoulder's #1 attribute is volume, grabbing the hand can be a good option!

Excellent suggestion, Mo! And thanks, Mark. DeMayo's tris are among the best of all time.
