Hello everyone.
Things are going well here. I did two interviews for the local papers and the did photo shoots and everything. I feel like a superstar around here.
Anyway, I have been dealing with bad post contest depression of sorts. I am not happy the way I have been eating. I know that I need a week to do just anything I want, but I mean I have ate everything in site. I mean everything. That has me feeling guilty. I took a week off from the gym and I feel guilty about that. It seems that I have lost my purpose. Although I have spent several hours planning my offseason diet, training and supplement schedule. I have the whole season planned out on a calender, down to the day of the contest. I started a diary, as Tim suggested, and kept all my notes from this one. I have a large notebook jammed full of info that Tim gave me. The guy is a genius in contest prep. I was honored to have had him as a coach. You can't argue with the end result.
Anyway, Is this normal to feel confused and lost.

I don't know about confused and lost, I was more happy as hell in eating great food again! I think your feeling guilty that all that hard work might go to waste. I did what Tim and many of the guys suggested here. Enjoy a few days ( I did 3) and then back on the good diet to maintain. Granted I don't know if your doing another show this year, but I am in oct so I had to go back eating clean. BTW.. A week off the gym was teh BEST THING!!! I know guys who dont and they suffer. Don't worry about it. You should continue to feel ike yoru DA SHEET because you did great and with all those hardships and bumps in the read some R and R is the best!

Sure it's normal, now put an end to it and move on Bodybuilding is a journey and for most of us, the journey never ends. Congrats on all your accomplishments! Excellent job!

Thanks guys. I think it boils down to feeling guilty about eating garbage, but it sure has been fun. I will get back to the grind stone on Monday. thank you for your reponses, it helped.
Chanman, I won't compete again this year. My next two shows will be in June and July 2007. About a month apart. So I am looking forward to a 16 week pre contest run.

I know exactly what you mean. I feel like I have no direction and don't know what to do when I do return to training and eating normal. You have been on such a strict regimine for the last 12-16 weeks and just knowing you don't have that super-strict diet there anymore kind of throws you off. Just take some time, plan your training and diet and get back to hittin it hard.

I think most of us feel lost post contest and that is one of the reasons we eat! If you have some new goals set for training and mass building that should help you get your diet back on track.

I can relate top all of the above........I need structure and order and a plan.
Tough to see that definition and your abs disappear.
Stay positive, set goals, ans also think of the end result, winning your next contest.

Thanks guys,
That really helps alot. We have a plan in place. We will start back in the gym next monday, but the real ball will get rolling on August 7th. That is when I am hitting my planned out regimen for the next contest. Off season portion of it anyway. I love this board. You are able to talk to fellow bodybuilders that have experienced what you are going through and they reply with compassion and regards to actually how you are feeling.
You guys are great.

Massiv, Never really touched this one before, as I don't think it has been brought up....but, I don't TOUCH a weight, take one supplement, or worry about what I eat for 4-6 weeks after a contest. The month off absolutely recharges me, AND after eating whatever I want during that time, I'm ready to get back with the program. I always view post- contest as a "vacation", ( I usually DO take the family on a vacation after a show!), and it really does give me something to look forward to and enjoy.

I know this is an old thread but when I read this I about dropped my jaw. I finished my first show 2 weeks ago and have since then caught, what I call, "hand to mouth" disease. I can't seem to stop putting my hand to my mouth!! I didn't take time off the gym because I was so frustrated (read feeling guilty) at myself with the foods I ate. I wasn't even lean going into my contest and now I'm REALLY not lean. Not to mention I'm a personal trainer and gaining all that weight (around 10 lbs) after a show really showed!
I've been trying to get back into the swing of things, eating healthier, making better choices, not stuffing myself at every meal, etc; but I'm still having a hard time of it - and it's 2 weeks after!!
Massiv what did you do to get off that "garbage truck" bandwagon? The next show I do won't be until next year sometime so I don't have the urgency of a show coming up to push me. ANY help here would be great!
Thanks ~C

Simply slowly eliminate the feedings, junk food, and cut back on portion size, plus increase water dramatically.
I eat for 1-3 weeks after competing depending on the length and severity of my diet, and if I`m doing multiple contests.
You deserve it for the denial of regular food you put yourself through, but you have to buckle down and draw the line sooner or later!! #aeatachicken9xi#

That's the approach that I'm going for right now. My little sister and I went to the store this afternoon and bought a bunch of veggies and good foods and at the same time are working on getting rid of the junk food in the house. I think my biggest problem is I got really reliant on my friend Keith to tell me what I can and can't eat and in what proportions. When the contest was done so was my need to do everything to a T with him. And now that I'm getting back into it (or trying to) I'm finding that I've gone "dumb" and can't seem to figure out what I need or don't need to eat. Back to the books with me!! Gonna read alot of articles and alot of my nutrition books from school again to help "refresh" my mind and get the "dumb" out. Thanks for the help and the ideas Will definitely be moving the crappy foods out! Can't handle feeling like this much longer. Take care ~C

Back with a full head of steam now. No looking back. Focus, focus, focus. Everyday is towards the new goals. It took about a month to get back with it. I am back with diet, training and intensity. Here we come 2007.

The first month after post contest is probably when you are going to gain the most muscle all year. The body is primed to put on mass after the hell you just put it through. I will eat garbage as long as I want to after a contest. I honestly could care less what I look like. I take 1 week off from the gym and cardio. After that I am back. The purpose here is to put on muscle not diet for another contest. I do this usually until my wife tells me I am getting fat. This is anywhere from 3 to 4 weeks. At this point I throw cardio back in at 4 days a week. Within a couple of weeks, I look like a bodybuilder again. If you deprive your body of what it needs after a show, your gains will suffer. You will also suffer mentally in the long run.

Guys (and ladies!) Man..can I relate! I take a day or two to eat ALL the things I've deprived myself from, than slowly ease back into clean eating for a week or so, before I get back on the wagon again. I TRY to take a whole week off from the gym, but it's killing me not to go! Especially when the scale is telling me to! Somebody said it earlier...you have a gaol...keep your eye on the target..and you will hit your mark! My next conterst will not be until 2008, so that will take a lot of discipline and pateince and focus. AND of course support from all of you!

Here is how I am currently dealing with it. Contest was 2 weeks ago. 6500 calories a day and gained 30 pounds in 2 weeks. I have no plans to stop in the near future. My workouts have been incredible. This is the time to gain muscle.

I am eating every 2 1/2 hours as opposed to my usal 3 hours and enjoying the hell out of some carbs!! Just ate chicken (again) with some macaroni salad and green beans and a Diet-Coke......beats the hell out of a can of tuna with a bottle of H2O !! #pukeb9vn#

I put a little fat back on. I am just going by the mirror. As long as I keep looking like this, I wil keep eating like this. Funny thing is the more I eat, the hungrier I am. Metabolism seems to be in ultra-high gear. I did throw cardio back in at about 1.5 to 2 hours a week just to be on the safe side. Workouts have been too good to purposely lower everything now. I want to see how long it stays like this. If I start getting too fat, I will back off.
I did switch over to almost all good food meaning the same food I dieted on. I think that is making a difference. I still can't kick the waffles yet though.lol
