I have used pro tan in the past, but dream tan seems to look easier to apply and the few I have seen using it had good color. Does anyone have good and bad points on dream tan?

Some venues don't allow it because it rubs off so easily. Check with the promoter. I've also heard that judges hate it (don't know why). I've used it a lot and everytime wish there was something better. It smears, runs, you can't touch it (tough on a lat spread or hands on hips most muscular). Tried it without oil since it has a "sheen" and was told I needed oil by a judge. I'm trying a new tanning regimen this week (and probably another one next week if this one doesn't work) and will let you know how it works.

I agree with Tim. I used to use it all the time. I switched to Jan Tana Show Tan last year and it worked great. Doesn't rub off at all and gets you a natural looking dark. Dream Tan tends to make me look like some sort of bronzed statue.

It does seem to be very messy-I'm going to be using Contest Colour and body Shimmer next show because the CC gives a good base and the Body Shimmer washes off very easily. www.pke.com.auPS the Body shimmer is more translucent and gives a 3D effect without covering everything up!

Here I go being different again! I like it.
I start tanning in a booth about 4-6 weeks out. I "de-fur" on Wednesday before contest. I do about 6 coats of Pro Tan Starting on Thursday. 2-3 on Thursday. 2-3 on Friday. One on Saturday morning.
Depending on the RULES of the venue, I'll either put it on at the hotel or put it on right before show time.
My wife puts it on me and REALLY rubs it in. I'm normally VERY dark, and have been complimented at every contest of my color.
I think part of the problem is NOT rubbing it in enough. You don't need to "cake" it on. Just a quick once over, and rub it in, this way you don't "melt" on stage.
I did one show that the lights were so bright that I looked "normal" on stage, but when I stepped off, I appeared African American.
My rule is, "When I THINK I'm dark enough...apply one more coat!"
On an aside, nothing against Jan Tana products, but I tried them once and it burned my skin.

… and as far as Dream Tan goes, I also like it! In my opinion, Dream tan's color uniformity is better than Pro Tan's… and is so more convinient. Frank is right… if you dont want it to hide your muscles definition, just make sure that you rub it enough… and only apply a thin coat.
After a couple of competitions, I've found that a spray tan the day before the show, fallowed by dream tan on contest day is the best combination for me.

I hate pro tan, its a pain it the a$$, takes way too many coats to get dark enough and a week after the show my skin is so dried out and flakey.
Jan Tana is so hard to put on evenly. It gives a good dark color but difficult to apply.
I love Dream Tan! Get the Dream Tan II Though the other one looks too gold toned. Dream tan over a good base tan the morning of the show works great for me. Rub it in good. I put mine on in the hotel room so theres no hassel at the contest venue. Just use a little cooking spray to bring out the shine before you go out on stage.
One other thing I learned, pack some dish washing liquid to cut the grease when you shower it off after the show. Makes cleaning up a lot easier!

I also have an old set of sheets that are brown that I take with me to throw over the bed so I don't get billed for damaging hotel stuff!
Some hotels that host these shows even have you sign a form that says you're responsible for damages to sheets, curtains, etc.
I guess some people actually took down curtains and laid them on the flooer to protect the carpet, but stained the curtains.
I pack my own stuff, sheets, towel, etc.
Once I apply, I put on an oversized sweatshirt with hoodie, and I bought drawsting pants so that it doesn't leave a mark around my waist from elastic. I keep warm until it's time to pump up.
One other thing that someone taught me.
If you don't like any of the other stuff.... Normal tan. 2-3 coats pro tan. Morning of venue, apply a very light coat of vaseline over your entire body, then put on your sweats.
By the time you're ready to hit the stage you will have a nice sheen, but not an excessive shine.
Plus it's hell for my wife to catch me! ;D

Yes. OCB Pacific Northwest States. About ready to leave for the morning show now. Ended up putting on 2 coats Protan, slept in last one, then 1 coat Protan bronzer mousse. I am nearly black right now. Went on a little splotchy, but Muscle Sheen smoothed it out well. Have to see now how it sweats... I will do a separate thread on the show when I can.

I use pro tan on my body. Usually 4 coats, but I use dream tan on my face, hands and feet. Works really well and very easy to apply. Comes off too easy for the overall body though.
