Cinnamon Remedy A dash of cinnamon could significantly lower your cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood sugar. When 30 women and men with type 2 diabetes added a sprinkle to their meals, blood sugar and heart-damaging blood fats (total cholesterol and triglycerides) fell 12 to 30% in just 40 days, say researchers at the USDA's Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center in Maryland. Cinnamon makes muscle and liver cells more sensitive to signals from insulin, an important blood-sugar-controlling hormone. Have a little (about 1/6 teaspoon) at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, for a daily total of about 1/2 teaspoon, he recommends. Since cinnamon may reduce your need for diabetes or cholesterol medication, ask your doctor if you need to adjust your dose.

when you guys add cinnamon to your oatmeal and such..do you guys "cook with your cinnamon" or do you guys sprinkle it on top and stir?
I've been cooking with my cinnamon....in the sause pan. I thought i heard something about ruining the properties of cinnamon.

Personally, I sprinkly mine on top and then sorta' blend it in..I also like to add a couple splashes of my whey-protein mix in with it as well rather than something bland like water (during dieting), in the off-season I'll roll with non-fat milk just to up the protein level a bit.. but as far as the cinnamon goes, I'm not sure of losing properties, I know this is true with vegetables but as far as cinnamon goes, cinnamon is an herb there4 I don't think it would hurt to cook it in, my reasoning being that I cook with all kinds of herbs and that don't seem to lose nothin'.. Just my .02......................lata'.

Hmm..i just try to avoid cooking WITH spices now......i just sprinkle it when it is plated. Even though I used to fuse my Curry powder with my egg whites..making the eggs look golden yellow...and the aroma was great...i just don't feel right COOKING HERBS and SPICES. Its safer for me to add it at the end. I recently bought Mccormick's Salt Free Garlic and Herb Spice. ingredients : Garlic, Oregano, Rosemary, Basil, redpepper, orange peel, onion, parsley, paprika, celery. A couple stuff in here is suppose to be good for health and thermogenic. Namely Garlic, Oregano, Rosemary, Red pepper, onion, paprika. I still can't find the Mccormick Curry powder though....i really could use it. It has Turmeric, Bayleaves, Cloves, onion, red pepper, and ginger, etc. Man i 'm really stacking up on spices ....trying to pick the ones i like...and they seem to be top antioxidants as well...

If you put a teaspoon or so of cinnamin in a gallon of apple juice, it tastes better. It also kills 99.9% of the germs in it, so it's like pouring 409 in it, with far more delicious results. Why this will be useful to anyone is still not known.

I recently found some cinnamon pills at a health food store and added them to my daily vitamin/herb intake. Lets see how they do for lowering cholesterol.
