Massive just recieved an e-mail stating that, under IPA rules, big Gene Rychlak has just benched 1005 pounds!!!
I am the first to hack on the excessive use of supportive gear, but I have to give credit to anyone manly enough to press a half ton!!
Big Gene and Scot Mendelson have been battling back and forth to see who would be the first to bench 4 digits, and since he has already done it in training, Scot must be foaming at the mouth!!!
Watch for these two monsters to push each other past 1100 before the decade is out!!!!

I suppose Mendy snoozed and losed. (Make sense?) I remember when McFarland posted shots of Mendy and a few guys benching around the "Live at the Firehouse" thread with Dugdale and Tommy T. That was months ago!!! So why did Mendy wait so long? To Gene, that is a hell of a lift!!! I'm also one for not using much lift assisting gear, but props must be given to someone lifting THAT much weight! And to think my joints hurting lifting not even a 1/3 of that. Congrats to Gene. I saw this on GB, but I wasn't sure if it was confirmed or not.

I think that Mendy intended on doing it in his last contest. He had been on a real tear and was benching 900 like it was a plate a side. The way it turned out he just had a real bad day and was having trouble with weights that he normally toyed with. I'm sure it takes a long time to dial it in for that kind of weight, so he may have just mistimed the peak of his strength cycle. I'm sure he'll be back to take on 1010. God, I remember being impressed beyond words when I heard that Matt Dimel SQUATTED that! Anyway, all due credit to Mendy, but for right now Gene's the man!!!!
