During my contest prep last year I found it EXTREMELY difficult to lose the fat.I have been talking to a number of other women too and some of them also find it hard to shift the weight whilst taking antidepressants-I know I need to be on them and I'm fine with that but I'm wondering if there are any guys who also have a similar problem??

Beckie, One of the misconceptions with anti-depressants is that they "make you" gain weight. There are no calories in medications. They can increase your appetite, you eat more and gain weight. It is critical that you write everything down during contest prep when taking an anti-depressant. So you know what you are eating and how often and go from there.

I took zoloft for a while and the doctor warned me of exactly what Karrie mentioned, some people when they are depressed eat too much, others can't eat. If you feel better and you are the second type (like me) you tend to eat more... thus gaining weight.

thanks Sapph! I think my body and the anti-depressants love carbs too much

I think we are alike, when I am happy and calm, I eat. When I am upset or sad eating is the LAST thing I am interested in doing.

True, when I get anxious/stressed food is just not in the plan-thankfully this doesn't happen too often these days
