my lower back has been in a real knott recently. For the past month or so, I have been having moderate discomfort with with. I can barely bend down foward without having an ache. It might be from my attempt at heavy deadlifting. What can I do to rehab this, and what can I do to prevent it in the future.

I am always a little over cautious when it comes to my back. 2 back surgeries will do that. If it was me I would see the doc. I threw my back a few weeks ago and had a knot, I had a feelingit was just muscular and not something more serious. I saw him and we talked about muscle relaxers and away I went. I took it easy for a few weeks only doing things that felt OK. I could not get into a leg press machine and put my feet up. I could not squat for anything. Well two weeks went by and I could squat a plate and deadlift a plate. Well now after four weeks or so I am back to near 100%. Yesterday was leg day and leg presses went like pie. 1400lbs. for 12 reps with a 1000lb rep set of 30. My advice is don't try to work through it, let it heal and you'll know when ytou can start doing some light work. If it only a muscular thing you'll be back in a few weeks just a strong. BUT if you try to push through it you may set ytourself back even further.
Sometimes it's not about rehab, sometimes your body just needs to take care of itself. That's what I did, I didn't try top stretch it or "work out the knot". I just needed a break.

Yea i've taken off from deadlifting. my back feels fien for squats tho.
ill take more of a break from excruiating lower back exercises. i think my heavey set of deads really did it. i felt my back round out like a scared cat. and viola, lower back issues.

Theres a great book I've used for my back-its called Treat Your Own Back by Robin McKenzie. I actually went to the McKenzie Institute for my sciatica many years ago and they were fantastic. If you do get referred for treatment try and get one that is certified in McKenzie back methods-they are brilliant!

thanks Beckie! I'll have to check this out. I find it odd, after I squat, my back actually feels much better and looser. No problems what so ever!

I had a bit of a problem with my lower back last night too!
Was doing one arm DB rows, and think I was twisting a bit, instead of straight up, and when I went over to do shrugs I could barely pick up the bar! Felt like a pinched nerve or something.
I went over to a rack and kinda hooked myself around it, and twisted and stretched every way I could. My lower back "popped" and the pressure was relieved. I put on a good tight lifting belt for the rest of the night, and drove on! Felt fine the rest of the night, and is fine this morning.
Listen to the aforesaid input. Rest, and let your body tell you when it's ready. If you have access to a good massage therapist that knows what they're doing with athletes, have them check you out. If necessary....see the MD!

i was so stupid. my back was feeling good the other day. i could bend, stretch, watever. NOW its killing me. i tried to do power cleans, and on 1 rep i felt a squeeze and a tingle. now my lower back is in AGONY!. i think its the deadlift positioning that really hurts me. squatting actually made it feel better. but deadlifting deff hurt it.

My lower back has been hindering me as well. I think it happened when I was doing rack deadlifts over a year ago. The only advise the Doctor gave me was work on flexabilty and don't use heavy weights on the squat. I don't think I have fully recovered. In the past I have taken time off from heavy deads and squats, but that doesn't help. My squats have dropped from 225x5 to 180x5. My deads haven't really suffered 225x5.

I went to the Dr. yesterday for my lower back. He diagnosised me with plantar fasciitis and shin splits on my right foot and tiba. He said the left side of my lowerback was compensating for this. So, he will send me to physical therepy sometime in a few weeks. For now the tx is Naproxen, gell inserts w/arch support and an ankle brace

I had no symptoms of plantar fasciitis, but when he put slight pressure on the bottom of my foot I felt discomfort and when palpated on the tiba, I also felt discomfort
