So i was doing chest the other day and i decided to do some pullovers. now, i know im not that flexible and extending behind my head with arms outward posed some issues in the past. but i did DB pullovers last week with no problem whatsoever. Saturday i did chest again but this time decided to do the fixed barbell pullovers. The arm are spaced wider than the DB pullover obviously and this is where i think i went wrong. i took a relatively light bar, about 30 lbs and proceeded to extend my arms back while lying flat on a bench. not a second later did my right shoulder totally give out and i dropped the weight. i reduced the weight to 10lbs and did it every slowly. well as of sunday and today, my shoulder hurts. not to the touch but if i move it back in a "fly" type of movement. the ache is in the front. could i have possibly done something serious?? i know you cant give a precises diagnosis but i have full ROM in my arm, no discomfort in lifting or anything. just in a certain position i feel the soreness.

Having to deal with a shoulder injury for the last 20 years (which caused me to give up competition) I think I can say that it sounds like you got lucky in that it is NOT a serious injury. If it was, believe me,you'd know it. Having said that, it's obvious that there is at least some "irritation" which if not looked after COULD develop into something more serious like tendonitis. If I were you, I'd lay off any movement for any bodypart that bothers that part of your shoulder. Once you are "pain free" again, you can resume normal training SLOWLY, just to be on the safe side. Also, if I were you, I'd forget about doing pullovers again. IMO it's the most over rated chest exercise around, and as you already found out, it puts the shoulder girdle in a very "compromising" position at the bottom of the movement. Get well soon, Vin.

I injured mine year before last doing overhead extensions and had the same type of pain down to the bicep could not even curl a 5 pound weight if its that bad gti you got trouble. I of course never went to the doctors and just did my own therapy which consisted of stopping all heavy weights for 9 months, I stopped curling and shoulder workout I stuck mostly to incline bar work light and doing the shoulder therapy that is most popular. I had pain for at least 7 months daily and especially at night but let me say this whatever I did and i sill don't know for sure, that shoulder is now stornger then my other shoulder. First suggestion of course would be the doctor for some nri's shots or whatever they do for shoulder injurys

If it's been two week already, you can try heat therapy on it (if you decide not to see a Doc.) and either Icy Hot or Ben Gay a few times a day. And keep avoiding ANY exercise that bothers it in the slightest. Taking an entire week off any upper body training wouldn't hurt either. You could do legs and abs for a week and see what happens. If you do decide to have a Doc look at it, make sure that you see one who specializes in working with people who do some kind of sports activity!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A normal G.P. doesn't have the preparation to treat a sports related injury, and more importantly, it's rehab. Get well soon, Vin.

sounds like it is something to do with the rotation of pullover so like Vin I'd advise you to stay away from them or anything else that involves heavy rotation over your head. I used to do them up until I pulled something and ever since I've stayed away.
Hope ti comes right soon!
