I was working bi's & tri's Friday. I already have a bone spur on my left elbow, which causes some problems hitting tricep as intense as I would like. My right elbow has been very pointed for a number of years now. I always claim it was calcium deposit. Any way Friday it stared hurting bad and swelled up the size of a plum. I had it x-rayed . I either have a small piece of bone broken off from the elbow or a piece of calcium floating around. Doc said was not much could be done. He knows I am doing a show in 3 weeks. Any one got any ideas on how I can hit triceps without crying like a baby. LOL

What exercises are you doing currently and which hurt you? Are you taking any pain meds for it? I would avoid Close Grip bench and dips so maybe you can do all sorts of different grips on pressdowns? Also straight arm pressdowns hit the long head of triceps and also the lat insertions.

Beckie, I have already been taking Celebrex and two aleve every day. Anything over head, skullcrusher, DB extensions are the most painful. But most pressdowns hurt quite a bit. Of course those were the exercises I was doing when it when out Friday. Before I could do dips on a bench, close grip and cable or DB kickbacks. Going to try towards the end of the week, see what happens. Workd chest and back last two days, that even irriatated it.

are you able to do partial reps without locking out the joint? Even half reps might be better than nothing...

I am at the point where I really don't know what is going to bother it. Yesterday doing a rear delt cable crossover exercise made it hurt me all day today. Thanks for the ideas. It looks like I am just going to have some pain till I can rest it after my competition.

I really feel you on this Rodger, I have both "golfers" and " tennis" elbow in both arms, and I know it really sucks to try and train around that pain. With a show coming up, I uderstand that it can be especially discouraging, but don't let it get to you. A technique that I have used in the past which has worked quite successfully is to find the ONE exercise that didn't cause any pain, and then just do all my sets for tripeps with that one exercise. It could be twenty sets of push downs, or twenty sets of rope push downs, or twenty sets of db kickbacks. All depends on which one didn't bother the elbow at that time. Unfortunalty these kinds of things just seem to go with bodybuilding, so the best thing to do is learn to "adjust" the best you can. Take care, and good luck, Vin.

Thanks Vin That is kind of what I did yesterday. I found two that did not bother me much. Got a great pump and felt like I was back on track.

Glad to hear that to Roger, sometimes adjusting is all you can do. The important thing is that you are still moving foward, good luck, Vin.

Had my right elbow x-rayed again yesterday. Doc says it looks like a bone spur that has broken off, just floating around. He said knowing me and what I want out of training best option is have it removed. They are going to make me an appointment with an sport orthopedic surgeon. As long as my gut feeling is good, I will go for it.

Roger....go ahead and have it removed. It doesn't sound like it will be a lengthy recuperation, and the sooner you get it done, the sooner you can go all out again in your training.

Thanks Tim and Keith, Have not been online for a bit. Been a little down over this elbow issue. I have saw my orthopedic surgeon. He said he did not know how my tricep had stayed connected to my elbow. It is set to have it worked on the 19th. He said I should take 3 months to recover completely. I have never gone more than two weeks without working upper body. This will be a challenge for me. I now plan on blasting legs two time a week. Need to put more mass on them anyway. As you said Tim always hit abs and cardio also. It will be great to be able to do all tricep exersices again.

Had my surgery last Friday. Woke up with a soft cast on from wrist to shoulder, did not expect this. Doctor told Sunny he removed the bone spur, had a small tear in ligament fixed and he removed the bursa sac. I go back on Halloween to find out what his plans are from here.Looks like I will be off work for at least 2 weeks. Have no idea about when I can lift for upper body. A little down but I will get over it. Just getting online and seeing what everybody is up to helps.

Leg training, abs, cardio to keep you busy. Stay strong bud, you`ll be back in no time flat. I lost every bit of muscle I had back in 2001.......3 broken ribs and a hematoma of the liver from a fall on icy stairs.............just made me more determined than ever to come back even better than I was before and I did just that. All the best!!

Went to the Doctor today. They took my soft cast off and took new x-rays. Gave me a brace that he could control my range of motion. He put the new x-rays beside the one before the work and told me just what was going on. The bone spur was not the biggest problem. 60 to70 % of my tricep was torn loose because of a lot of scar tissue. He cleaned every thing off scrapped the bone into a more natural shape, some how put a small piece of metal on the bone and attached the tricep tendon to it. I am to wear the brace all the time except when sleeping or taking a shower, can not go back to work for another 4 weeks. I can train my clients as long as I do not pick up more than 5 lbs. with my right hand. Who ever out there who believes in prayer I will take as many as you feel like giving.
