So I had a tooth bothering me for some time now, saw the dentist and had a small piece of an old filling fall out. Had it fixed. The tooth never felt the same though and I couldn't really eat or put pressure on it. Let it go, thinking, oh it will get better. WRONG! The pain has been so severe, I literally almost hit the floor everytime it throbs. I have been put on penicillin now and my face has blown up with swelling and into my glands and neck. I am sure paying for it now. I knew I should have went back to the dentist when it starting aching a week ago, but I kept letting it go. I went today and saw in the x-rays the infection and how it has spread. Now I have to have a root canal once the infection is cleared up. I sure know next time to get my butt down to the Dr. right away if the pain goes on for a few days and not wait over a week. I have never felt this kind of pain before where it is so sharp I feel like I am going to faint. Dr. said the worst is over and I should be on the mend now. So anyone out there with a tooth ache, see your dentist and don't put it off thinking it will get better.

thanks Beckie. I feel like I am slowly getting better. The pain isn't so severe and the swelling is starting to go down.
I sure learned my lesson to not put up with tooth pain thinking it will just go away.

Glad to see you are on the mend! ;D I ignored a tooth problem for about 5mths last year and ended up with a root canal. I also learned to never ignore the pain. The things we put off!

CeaAnna:
Part ONE: My wife had a bike accident about three years ago and hit her cheek on the curb (cracked her helmet like a coconut!). She survived the accident, but 3 YEARS LATER.... the roots were damaged in 2 perfectly good teeth, and started an infection! They started dying, so she had to have a double root canal.
Part TWO: The antibiotics that the Dentist gave her for the infection in her cheek, killed the "good" bacteria in her intestines and "created" an infection in her intestines requiring a round of a whole differnet antibiotic!
VICIOUS CIRCLE!

Thanks everyone! I am slowly on the mend. 4 more days of antibiotics so we will see how I feel after. mrbeefy, I can't believe the pain your poor wife had to endure. Wow, that would be terrible. I can't believe she had an accident like that, I am glad she is ok. A double root canal, that would be painful, then on top of it starting an infection in her intestines, that is crazy. I know my tooth is dead inside, that is what the Dr. said and that it created the infection and then the infection spreads so easy. I sure learned my lesson to not ignore tooth pain.
