Well folks, sorry for the delay, but Troys review is finally here.
Welcome once a gain to the "weight room"
On today's episode we'll reveiw Troy Alves newest dvd release.
Let me be the first to say that I wasn't going to purchase the new Troy Alves DVD. It wasn't one that I really wanted. The only reason I got it, was it was basically free when I purchased Victor's and Dexter's from muscletime.
So after watching those two, I decided to sit down and take a look.
Normally I tell you the viewer what you'll like,
but with this one I'm going to start off with what I didn't like.
First of all Troy does a lot of talking. Although not bad, since you do get to know him, it does take him awhile to do his next set.
Secondly Troy doesn't use an awefull lot of weight. I know he's not a powerlifter but the weights aren't very impressive, when compared to other dvd's.
Onto the good stuff.
What is really enjoyable about this dvd is Troy himself.
I know I praised Victor and Dexter for being aesthetic, and all but Troy is built very well. Very pleasing to the eye, with outstanding seperation and clean cut definetion of each muslce.
His training is intense, but what captures your eye is the condition he is in. Beautiful shape, and symmetry.
Troy also has a look that men can appreciate and aspire too, and of course the kind women would love to be with.
My own wife put it best when she said. "Troy's no Ronnie, but who wants to have Ronnie by their side, I'll take him!"
I basically took that, as Troy being a marketable spokesperson of our sport. LOL
His leg workout is inspiring, as is his chest, arms, delts and back. At the end of the chest and back workouts we see him pose. He is in excellant shape and is clearly ripped. His back looks much more ripped and his physique has matured a great deal over the past year.
It's very inspiring to see him train arms and his waist is small, but not so small it that its impossible to believe (ala dexter).
Troy's physique looks attainable. I mean no disrespect in saying that, I certainly don't mean to be insulting to this great athlete. But in this day and age, with all the bloated physiques which are so massively freightening, its extremely refreshing to see a more normal physique that is actually pleasing to the eye.
The bonus features include Troy at the Show of Strength, in comparisons and posing routine. Then we see him at the Olympia (but no footage from the show).
Let me sum it up this way.
WHen I watch a different dvd, like that of Ronnie and or Jay, or Markus, they are impressive. But after awhile you begin to get turned off by their limitations. Markus can barely breath, Jay has flexibality issues, and Ronnie's just soo damn big.
Meanwhile Troy looks extremely athletic, polished, and healthy.
I certainly don't mean to say he's better then the above mentioned guys.
But he represents a much different aspect to our sport.
The one old timers can appreciate. The kind that inspires you to train harder and that you can achieve a great physique.
This muscletime dvd is of its usual quality. Good visuals, good sound and good editing.
But the best attribute about this dvd is Troy himself. To anyone thinking twice about buying this dvd, just buy it.
It will make an excellant addition to anyone's libary.
This gets a 4 out of 5.
Till next time keep hitting the weights and for now
