My show is obviously quite a ways out, but I am already working on my posing. My husband is helping but he has never had to help a female with posing only men. I read Gerry T's article and it looks like majority of the poses are the same. We go to BB shows and have for years, but it is different to go to shows and actually do a show. My husband and I are looking into a female BB who has competed in numerous shows to help me out. I assume this is the best avenue and starting now is not too early?/. The way I look at it the better poser I am the better I will do.

It's never too early to start posing. I tell myself every year I will practice and it always takes until the last few weeks till I get moving. Start early and it will be a piece of cake when you get on stage and you will look professional and confident.
BTW - I, and Bluevan (Mark) and jcdeadlift (Scott) are going to be at tough bodies on Thursday for a workout around 3:00. Maybe we'll see you there.

Oh, I almost forgot is it a true bodybuilding show or figure/fitness? I know of only two women in the area who compete. One is Tammy Johnson, daughter of the great Willie Johnson but I don't know how much she has done lately. And there is a woman at Buckeye who competes. If you want shoot me a PM and we can talk about it.

Karrie, I'm thinking about doing the same thing. My goal is to compete for my first time , hopefully by fall of 2007. At the family reunion this weekend, my dad wanted to take progress pictures of me, so I did the best I could but when I looked at the pics, there were no where near what I see. I have a lot of people around me that have competed, at the gym, at my physio office and at work. One of the guys just got his pro card rescently and and has told me if I ever need any help to let him know. I think I'm going to take him up on his offer. I agree with you, the sooner one starts praticing, the better and more natural one will feel when it does come time to get up on stage.

Tiff, I think you should take that guy up on his offer!!! I also agree with progress pic's. I am taking my updated ones in two weeks and see where I am at. My show is in April on '07, but I want to at least look like I know what I am doing on stage, as far as posing!!!! ;D ;D ;D
I am excited you and I doing our first shows next year WHOO.....HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #smileygrouplaugh5js#

Definitely start the posing as soon as you can-my trainer had me doing it 2x a day every day for at least 30-45 mins. Doing this helps the muscles stop cramping up come competition time because they are used to the poses. When looking for a posing coach make sure they have competed in physique a reasonable number of times, maybe even at a national level if that is possible-competitions can be won or lost on the standard of your posing!!

Karrie, who knows, if all goes well at the doctors next month maybe we'll be preparing at the same time. If not, at least I can cheer you on and learn at the same time #highfive5wp#

Thanks beckie, will definitely keep that in mind when looking for someone. Tina has only competed once so Donnie looks like a better choice but, although he has competed for years, I'm not sure if he has trained females before. Glad I'm not waiting till the last minute, sounds like there's a lot to learn.

Beckie, The woman who is hopefully going to help me has competed for years and is pretty well known for her posing. She has placed pretty high in her comp's. So, I feel confident in her!!! My husband helps but again, can only give so much input. The thing I find so darn difficult is the quarter turn poses. I feel like an idiot standing there and I am clearly uncomfortable, so I need ALOT of work, but I am willing to put in the time!!!!
Tiff, I hope things go well for you at the doc...I am all psyched that another STRONG WOMAN here is aiming for a FIRST show too!!!! #smileycheeleader9un#

Quarter turns are awkward for everyone I think-you see so many variations out there-the one I don't like is one I've seen with the figure girls when facing the sides-both arms out in front of their bodies and their butts sticking out(not nice!!). I think if you can rotate your leading shoulder back and your behind onesLIGHTLY forward(without twisting too much) you are on the right track! As long as your posing coach can pick up the good and bad points in your physique and get you posing based around that, you should be fine!

All I know is I am posting progress pic's in about 2 weeks and I do not want to look goofy!!!! #bcrazylaugh4ua# There are times I just bust out laughing b/c things feel awkward...but I am noticing the more I practice the more comfortable I am becoming. My lat spread is getting better and I can pop it up quicker b/c I am getting used to the hand placement.

It does feel awkward and a bit stupid to start with Karrie but I'm sure you're doing fine!

Practice Practice Practice!!!
Even though I do the same thing as Jeremy (Sal Paradise) mentioned above,I used to practice a lot, and I swear for my next contest,I`m gonna` invest some major time in improving my routine..........................I know I would place better because of it!!
