The gym: OK, I was a little irritated at an incident that happened tonight at the gym. I would say about 90% of the people down there know me, I have been going to that gym for over 12yrs now. So this one guy, whom I have not seen in about 8 mths is there..no big deal right?/. So, we have preloaded ez bars that go up to, I believe 100 or 110lbs. This is a great thing we all love these bars. I began looking for the 70lb bar and this guy has it. I ask in my usual happy, upbeat self "May I work in with you with that bar?' He looks at me and says "Well....I have two sets left!" I said ok I will wait and he says "It will be at least 10 min." So, I kind of look at him and the two other guys there b/c they were just about ready to jump in to help me....when I said "Ok, I will wait." So I wait b/c we only have one of those bars and I just went up in weight on the CG presses for my tri's so I knew 80 would be too hard and this guy also had the 60lb bar so I knew I could not ask for that one. So he finishes and then the guy who spots me grabs the bar and I do my set.....well this JERK came into the dumbbell room, ON PURPOSE to watch me do my sets with the 70lb bar b/c he had been using the same weight for skull crushers!!!! So I asked one of the guys who witnessed this whole thing and he said I was NOT being rude, AT ALL, he thinks this guy was pi@#ed off b/c I was using the same weight for my tri's. Even though I was doing a different exercise he thinks this guy got mad about it!!!!! ISN'T THAT RIDICULOUS? ?

First of all Karrie, you are right, the guy is a JERK, because he violated one of the most basic rules of gym etiqute around, by not letting you work in while he rested. It's one of the very first things that I teach at my place, so when people move on to one of the really good gyms in town, lol, the'll know how to act!!! Since the guy obviously never learned this VERY BASIC concept of good gym behaviour, he probably would have done it to anyone asking to work in, and not just you simply for being a woman. Secondly, try and take it as a compliment that he took the "trouble" to come and see you using "his" bar, and try feel good that you probably blew his whole day in the process, LOL, Vin. P.S. You know, I was just thinking, the fact that it was a PRELOADED bar, and no weight changing at all would be involved, makes this guy an even BIGGER jerk that I first thought, LOL. However, I wouldn't sweat it, it will probably be another 8 months before he shows up again, LOL, "you go girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Vin.

It can get frustrating but when I run into someone like that, it just gets me pumped up!! At 6 am I dont have to many people like that to deal with but there are a few regulars and they are more than willing to let me work in when I need to. It's funny, the other day Troy was at the gym helping me and I was looking for some db's but one of the other girls had the weight I needed, she offered to hand them over right in the middle of her set. I didn't take them but it was really cool that she offered.

i hate it when people do that!! It happens to me all the time.
There was this one time when this lady even said "SO?" after i said " my tower was on this machine." Because i was superseting ...i just left the machine there for a MINUTE...and it was taken by some lady.
If i ever open up my own gym..i'm gonna have at least 3 of everything!!!!
i hate those preloaded bars. I rather use a regular olympic straight bar or the ez-bar (unloaded)

Karrie you know as the others have said he was jealous of the weight and that he is a jerk. I have so many of those stories its not even funny. Glad you are like me and have a voice to say something to those guys and gals that are jerks....hehe Alot of men are pig headed (not speaking about you guys here) when it comes to women lifting weights. I get alot of grief from men in my gym that are new since they see this small person (5ft here) 120lbs and they think I need help unloading a bar before I even start deadlifting? ?? They always comment oh someone left that loaded huh? And I say uh no this is mine and I am just warming up. That ususally shuts them up. Yes, some may think I am a bit*h but hey I get alot of respect in my lifts so I just act just as pigheaded as they do hehehe.... Smiles s

Karrie:
Speaking from the testosterone side of the house, I just wanted to say that I'm really proud and seriously impressed by any woman who is in the gym working out. It tells me she's proud of who she is, and wants to make herself better, physically and mentally. My wife works out by my side at every workout. We spot each other, yell at each other, and when nobodys looking, we even sneak in a little kiss! We have quite a number of ladies at our gym, and a number of couples too. Figure, bodybuilders, and even a bunch of power lifters too. So far, in my limited contest experience, all the ladies I've met have looked great, were well spoken, intellegent, and friendly. It just don't get no better that that! And Karrie....you are one of the best!
