Mr. Wescott
This may have been covered already but I sent this message to your new forum and they suggested I post it here since you may read this one more often. I have been reading over some of your articles on bodybuilding.com recently and had a few questions if you don’t mind. 1)When using your 150,100,50,125,200 cycle for carbohydrates, would it be ok to use a 4 day training split like, say, legs, arms, rest, back/traps, chest/delts, and rest 2 more days? I assume you start back over to 150 grams of carbs on day 6, so each time you work out you’ll be taking in different amounts of carbs. 2)I see you recommend HIT cardio- only HIT or some steady state mixed in? If not, how many days a week during contest prep would you do HIT cardio (while dieting and training in this style)? Thanks for your time Mr. Wescott. I really have found this article to be the most interesting one on carb cycling, and it explains how to go about it the best as well.
I do have 1 final question. In regards to the final week of prep, when most will carb up and deplete water, how does your plan change for that final week? Thanks again Sir in advance for your reply, and also for writing such a great articles!
Sincerely,
Jason Wolfe

Jason I used this carb cycle last year getting ready for a show. It worked great for me. I carbed up 3 days out from the show, but I do not cut water. The night before the show I drank 2 gallons.

Wolfie!
Carb cycling is the way to go. Read through all of Tim's posts here on carb cycling. They are pretty self-explanatory.

Thanks guys for your replies. I've read different ways to carb cycle. Some have a high carb day every 5 or 7 days. But I just felt like Tim's explanation and article explained it best. We'll see how it goes. I never thought cutting water was very safe anyway. But I'm glad Roger that you've tried this approach and it's worked for you! Again I appreciate the responses.

Roger (or anyone else that's used this approach), Did you go low carb for 3/4 days before carbing up 3 days out? I'm trying to plan ahead. This is week 3 of carb cycling for me and it's a way better approach to contest dieting than I've tried in the past. Thanks Tim! Jason

This is week 3 of carb cycling for me and it's a way better approach to contest dieting than I've tried in the past. Thanks Tim! Jason Jason, There's many good ways do get it done! But the absolute best way for you is going to depend on many aspects: your bodyweight, metabolism, how depleted you are, how carb sensitive you are, your lean muscle mass, etc. That being said, I've seen waaaaaay more flat bodybuilders than bodybuilders who have carbed too much! So make sure you are ripped enough... then, dont be to afraid eating carbs 48h to 72h hours before the show... it wont transform into fat in that time frame! 2 weeks out, post some pictures, your current diet, bodyweight and I'll be glad to suggest you something... Mo

Then following Mo's advice I carbed up for 3 days before show. Worked great for me, Thanks again Mo

Thanks guys. I will keep you updated. But it was a good month. Dropped almost 5% BF. That follows almost 4% the 1st month when I was low carbing it. I will stick to the new plan for now! Wolfie

What do you guys think of this plan? I've been evolving it. I've started with Palumbos diet as a base, but don't seem to do well with as high fats as he recommends. So I cut a couple egg yolks off the morning meal, substituting egg whites for the missing whole eggs, and skipping the peanut butter and extra fish oils. Now, on workout days, 3 days a week, add in some carbs, eg 2 bananas or the like for preworkout snack. Also, since I still have some calories to play with, add a vegatable to the evening meal the night before a workout. The upshot, I THINK, is that I'm cycling carbs on a 48 to 72 hour mini cycle. I still have 13 weeks til my next show and biceps vein is coming in good as are calf cuts. I need more torso and thigh definition. I'm 255 plus and hope to come in with much more muscle but shredded. I think this plan is still tight, but the very low carbs- under 50 weren't making me too healthy. Any feedback is most welcome!
