I have been trying to decide between doing the show in Oct or going into an aggressive off season phase. I think the off season choice may be a better one. I was planning to do this show to redeem myself from the July show. I have been dieting WAAY TOO Loooong. Its not that I want to eat crap, I just want to eat. I should say that my body is telling me to eat. I can feel it. My muscles are craving some nutrients. I just think doing the next show would be counter productive as far as the whole picture goes. I would like to get MUCH bigger and be MUCH more competative next season. What do you all think? Good idea? or Not?

Rubes,
IMO listen to your body. I backed off for a few reasons: Supporting my wife, getting bigger, needed a break, etc. I understand being hard core macho and all, but you have to use a little common sense too.
If you feel you need the break, take an educated approach and plan your long term goals, including an off season, and when and how you plan to come back. Set short and long term goals, and don't let the off season diet get too out of hand.
IMO you will do great.

Suck it up and do the show.................you can eat big right after you`re done winning!! I started dieting in January...........Nuff Said!! You`ll always have time to eat Oreos but if you skip the show, you`ll always wonder how you would have done. Bodybuilding demands extreme measures.........back in the day guys did tons of shows a year.....these days the mantra is "You can only peak once" whish is total bullsh*t. Be a warrior and win the friggin` thing bro! Of course your body`s telling you to eat.......it doesn`t want to be lean and ripped that`s where the dedication comes in. Next time it "tells" you to eat,dig into a nice can of delicious tuna!! If I listened to my body while dieting,my diet wouldn`t last a week.

I'm with Tim. If you want to get MUCH bigger you'll need more than a few months off (by the time you get into a good offseason mode you'll have to start dieting again for next season; so that leaves, what, offseason from now until about March?) Do the show as another practice run for what it takes to get you absolutely shredded. It'll only add to your education the next time around. Then, if you want to gain serious size, take a whole year off and come back in 2009.
I've been dieting since Feb 16 and this Saturday will be my 5th show since June. About 4 weeks ago I was feeling what you are: "maybe that's enough... my body is rebelling, etc" but I set certain goals out for myself and after establishing that I've been totally on point. I know you added this show on after your July show, but you also wanted some redemption--go out and get!

Guys. Its not about eating oreo's or any junk. I have NO problem with willpower. I am just not into it right now. I like to get bigger and stronger. Thats my thing. Competing on stage takes a FAR second to this. I just feel as though it will benefit me to grow right now. I am also going on a cruise with my wife for our one year anniversery, leaving next sunday. This means MUCH more to me than any show EVER could. My life does NOT revolve around bodybuilding. I get on stage for the fun, and if I do it this time around it will not be fun. See where I am coming from?

Tim. I have also been dieting since January.
We'll see. this is not set in stone yet. See how I do this week and then see how lean I am when I get back from the cruise. Then I will fully decide. ;D
Thanks for all the input so far guys. You know what you all say goes a long way with me!

I think you should enter the NABBA show! Remember, it is all about condtioning these days, not size.

I understand where Tim and Bob and the others are coming from, and you have to admit, with thier results, they do know what they are talking about. But, playing devils advocate here, I feel what Rubes is going through. I got back into working out (Thank God), due to my wifes pursuit of getting healthy. After her gastric bypass surgery, we both got back into the gym, knowing that we had to change our eating habits, and lifestyle if we wanted to grow to be as old as Tim Now, even though I have competed in a few shows, and REALLY enjoyed them, she has surpassed me with powerlifting. I will support her, and still do my own thing too. Sorry, getting off track here! What I guess I'm saying Rubes, is do what YOU think you should do. Take what these guys are telling you to heart, because there is much truth in what they are saying, but only YOU know what's in your heart. If you need the time. Take it. If you think you should do the show, and then take a break, that's cool too. Have NO REGRETS, either way. Eaither way, you are NOT going to turn into a fat round boy overnight! Just make sure you're sabbatical does not turn into years off for long deep thoughts (of Oreo's and McDonalds)! And by the way, CONGRATS on the Anniversary! Celebrate the milestone my friend, and I wish you many, many more! Life is a journey that is full of these crossroads. Deciding to turn right, left, stop, slow down, speed up, is all part of the journey. Enjoy the journey, and then the destination will be worth it. WE are ALL here for you Bro, whatever you decide. Keep us up-to-date! Frank ;D

If cou CAN do it, you should do it… I mean Randy, the big majority of the diet sacrafices is already done. That being said, your mind also needs to be 100% into it… if not, just forget it!
In my opinion, you shouldnt restrict youself from competing because you want to progress… a couple more weeks of dieting wont make any difference. Anyway, you already have what it take to be very competitive this year, and these extra weeks of dieting are going to give you an even more rafined look for this second show… and that is also what we can call progression.

Randy, I just wrote your journal, and maybe the Tendonitis could be a good reason for starting off season...

Inj my case, although I`m much older than Randy..........I took 2004 off completely from contests in an effort to get bigger and to try to place better of course. After going up to about 190 pounds, the heaviest I had ever been, and eating tons of raw eggs until I had trouble digesting them, when I dieted down,I weighed the exact same bodyweight as I usually do onstage. 1.-I was much stronger in the gym. 2.-I felt good eating whatever I wanted to, until too much time passed and I ate too much junk. 3.-I looked like crap, but was in good training shape, but had a bad back injury that set my training back a bit. 4.-Much much harder to get back into contest condition and had to lose around 27 pounds..........for what? If you do bulk a bit, keep it in check and don`t go overboard because what the scale says does not always equate to solid muscle tissue. As Frank said,we`re all behind you in whatever you decide to do bro.

Sorry, R. Thought I had responded. The advice here is all great, but it is ultimately up to you.
My instinct says listen to your body. if you need the rest, take it and no worries.

Tim. Thanks. I am not intending to BULK per say. My goal is LOTS of LEAN mass. Staying close to contest shape, but not so close that i compromise size gains. I feel as though I have been cheating my body and would like to start from a higher cal range and work down leaving more in the tank this time. Believe me, I would like to compete. I am just trying to have patience here and make it all pay off! I want bigger and better things when I compete again. In order for this to happen I need to take my physique to a whole new level. I will do this through DISCIPLINED eating and training! In no way am i using this offseason as an excuse to get FAT! Like I said in the other thread. I will not allow my waist to go over my contest pants size! Off season cardio all the way as well!
