Alright, I have used a bunch in the past, mostly from GNC, since that is my current job that fits around my college schedule.
I have used there 100% whey (which is probably the lowest quality they have, I have some now) I am in the market for looking to buy a good protein powder for post workout and to make up my protein deficit througout the day (busy day's)
I am really looking into this protein GNC has called Mega Isolate, it compares to Pro Complex by ON's..........
what do you reccommend for a good type of protein to buy? for the money....
before bed I'll either have a whole food protein source or some pb and a whey shake, cause the fat will slow down my whey throughout the night, and a protein source a few hours later when I get up to piss.
thanks for any help

Is the 100% Whey from Optimum Nutrition? That is what I use primarily for its low cost and good amino profile. It also tastes better than most I have tried and it is a good protein to have around. If I get a post workout smoothie I go for Isopure zero carb with added fruit. That stuff tastes good and it has 50g of protein.

Big Whey protein by Next Nutrition was the best tasting protein on the market, but they stopped making it last year. Yeah, Optimum is the best deal as far as price and taste goes. I like their chocolate.

You may want to check this place out. It is called DpsNutrition. It's a volume mail order seller of supplements. They have a good website and they usually describe the nutritional content of all the products they have. www.DpsNutrition.com

ON WHEY 100% Vanilla Ice Cream Flavor is the best overall protein i've seen as of yet. Their NATURAL variety has Frutose in it If i have to rate their products as of quality : Vanilla Ice Cream 81% unaltered protein for both strawberry and vanilla. Double Rich Chocolate (like vanilla but has cocoa)79% unaltered protein for chocolate flavor So if you don't care about flavor go for Vanilla for best quality protein. The worst i'll get is Rich Chocolate....which they only have at the nutrition store i shop at right now Chocolate also has a little bit more fat and carbs too... So i personally go for the Vanilla.....the ingredients are the essential ones..and no extra crap..besides artificial flavor. Strawberry i haven't tried because i haven't found it.... Go for ON WHEY for cheap good quality. After all...it is just supplement....

Tjis is an interesting topic for me, as I am about to buy more protein pwder myself. In fact I was going to suggest the same site that j65 did above, because I have been looking at it. However...., today while looking through the articles on Tim's site, I found Chris Mason's site, which had an article about Protein supps. You may want to read it. It goes on to say..."As the above evidence hopefully makes clear, the claim that whey is superior to casein for building muscle is simply not valid....." the site is: www.atlargenutrition.com/wheyprotein.php

Whey is Ok as a post-workout supplement or early in the morning as you haven`t eaten all night long.It digests very quicly especially if mixed with just plain water.
I think Milk & Egg ,or a casein based protein may be better but it depends on your goals.
By goals I mean whether or not it`s before a contest if you do indeed compete.
I used to use Milk & Egg protein powder years ago and it was great.
I only use whey at the above stated times or in emergencies.

I thought I would throw this out there in case anyone was in the market for whey and needed to save some money. I picked up two 5 lbs tubs ( total of 10 lbs) of their "value whey" for $27.00 at my local Vitamin world store this weekend. They claim it is a special sale, ( 2 for 1) and won't last long, but you know how that goes. I have included the web site below, but I do not know what the S&H will do to your savings if you do not have a store close to you. Of course serving size and potency vary from brand to brand, so do the math and see if it is still a good buy for you VS what you now buy. As far as taste and texture goes, I do not want to go out on a limb there, first everybody is different, and I am not that picky, and I use a blender, so mixing is not a problem for me with any brand. So I hope it helps someone, I know I would have been upset if I missed the sale, because I usually pay much more for Whey. www.vitaminworld.com/pages/file.asp?xs=A35C13618BC745559D7B5C104E2618BE&PID=1284&np=0

Not sure if your after Taste or Results, but Beverly International has a very good product line. I personally would eat cement and drink Kerosene, if I was aware that it would help me acheive my goals, lol, but seriously Taste is THE LAST thing I care about, when searching for Supplements.

Well beverly will let you set up a wholesalers account if you purchase 1000.00 dollars worth of goods, but you get everything at half the retail price,e.g.(Muscle Provider=45.00 retail, wholesale is=around 22.00 dollars and they have free shipping).
If you are interested in a little more conventional method go online- to a nutrition wholesaler(DPS.COM, etc)DPS nutrition is a good place to start.

I am a big Optimum Nutrition fan also and you should be able to find a 5 pound tub for 22 or 23 dollars.

I like them too although I am using ON as a back up these days. I jumped on the trueprotein.com bandwagon and I am happy with the quality of the stuff I have had so far. I should be getting another 5lbs today of the cold filtered stuff. I have had the ion exchange and it is great... mixes really well and doesnt taste all that bad, great for my morning cereal mix! I will be getting some casein stuff next week for bedtime drinking and mixing for protein/fat meals at the end of the day!

my favorite is definately Primaforce's Substance WPI watermelon flavor.
tastes like a jolly rancher, 100% whey isolate. no carbs, no fat, no fillers, no aspartame. Just the bomb shizzle

my PWO is a blend from TP.com, which I add BCAAs and Glutamine to...my other protein, for shakes or whatever else during the day is Extreme Labs whey...tastes great, is super cheap compared to most other proteins, and i've actually seen the assay on it, so there is no wondering...
