Nope, today was an oddity. I'm usually the serious one. Since I give off a serious "Don't bother me as I do my workout" vibe, and I look similar to Stone Cold Steve Austin. Put the two together and it's somewhat lonely in there for me! Even with 200 people in and out at any given time (30k square feet holds a lot of people!)

I very rarely talk to anyone at the gym. Terry tells me that I can come off not so nice, but I need to get in and my workout done, so I understand the Stone Cold Steve Autsin vibe!!!

You have a shaved head and goatee too?! I'll say hi and talk to 5-10 people in there on a regular basis, I try to be friendly. But there is certainly a vibe that people cross that I can feel when they just want to be there for social hour. It's one of (though not THE) reason I carry a watch. I usually glance at my watch 2-3 times in my rest period and that sends a signal to those that I'm itching to get back to my set/workout. Most that have a iPod or walkman on, don't even use them, it is there mainly to distract the socialites from talking to them. I never liked going that route though. Instead, I just come off like a jerk and give a menacing stare!

OMG YB.....you have a "guardian angel" (Tara) Watching out for your azz LOL! I admit that I do both (sorry ). On the days that I'm pumped to WO (most days), I put on my iPod, pull a skull cap down low, and avoid contact. I turn up the volume and crank my workout into overdrive. I put out the vibe to "get the he** out of may way, and have thrown "children" off of the equipment I need if I think they are playing to long on it. BUTT (sorry Tara!), there are days that I see people I know in the gym (which is a LOT), and see how they are doing. GUILTY AS CHARGED! Tara's comment about the DD, etc. is not far fetched. There are a few of those in Powerhouse. The little boys drool, try to catch glimpses in the mirror, etc. I don't think that one of them there has really wroked out. I think all of her "physique is cosmetic, you know "nip-tuck". When she came in today, I turned my bench to the wall and stared at the wall through the whole workout.....and we all lived happily ever after ;D

The Powerhouse I train at has a great clientele and just about everyone in there is VERY serious about their training, other than that.......I just like to zone out when I train and I really don't notice any BS going on around me. It's like when I played football, and would tell people that, even in a packed stadium, the quietest place in the world was down there on the field because you are so focused.

I've always wondered how people could concentrate, but it's really hard to explain. In the end I just say "it happens." I always have my stopwatch and it's set of X amount of time (always changes from week to week) and that's my talking/rest time. You can talk to me, tell me all the jokes you would like or chastise me all you'd like, but when that beep goes off-usually 10secs before the beep as I'm always looking at the watch- it's "go time."

I hear quite a bit of people telling me (in & out of the gym) that I should wear only a tank top, not the "over-shirts" that I favor. "Show the goods man! You'll be getting girls left and right, you gotta market yourself man." I hear it all the time, but that's not what I'm there for. I've never been in the gym for anything but me. Not in a vain sense-I certainly have that aspect too- but because I'm there for me, I don't want people to interrupt my sets. Talk to me all you want, before and after the rest periods and workout. But if I'm somehow grasping the bar ready for a set, it's MY time. A 45sec set is all I'm asking to be "mine." Then you can talk for another 2min while I rest. I'm just there to workout, and that's the ME time. I'm not there to pick up on girls, I'm not there to be better than everyone else, I'm not there for anything but to make myself better than...myself. I have at times broken all my own "rules" of course, but overall I'm there for me myself and I.

So, YB, what I hear you saying is you're there "for the chicks?"
Thanks, I'm taking notes.

After a week and a half planned layoff, I got back into the gym today. Nothing really heavy, and didn't really push things at all, because I know tomorrow will be torturous if I do!
Pull-Ups: BWx6x4
HS St. 1-Arm Row Machine: 225x8x2 275x8
Flat BB Bench: 205x6x3 225x6
HS 1-Arm Inc Bench Press: 185x10 225x10x2
That was all. Since I'm now going to start a minor diet, just to trim back a bit till the holidays are through, I also started walking on the treadmill as of today. Just a 15min slow paced walk.

Yesterdays workout that I was too lazy to enter at that point in time. After a few quick & light sets of Leg Extensions, I jumped onto the Hack Squat machine, where I realized 'This machine looks similar to the one at the other location, but weights vary greatly!' Hack Squats: 315x8x3 365x8 Leg Extensions: 120x12x3 140x12 St. 1-Leg Curls: 40x8x3 60x8 Std. Leg Curls: 185x12 225x12x2 St. Calf Raises: 180x8x3 Std. Calf Raises: 225x10x3 Then I walked on the treadmill for a quick ten minutes. Thursday I'll be hitting Arms & Shoulders, then I'll take the next 3 days off and officially begin working out like my usual self again on Monday.

I know what you mean about the weight feeling different.
I put 4 one hundred pound plates on a leg press for reps, and it felt like 100 pounds total?!?
What the heck?!

I think it depends on leverage, and a few other things. I know the sliding track mechanism can vary too. Tom Platz talked about doing 5 plates aside on a Venice area Hack Squat, but he couldn't barely move 2 plates on the one in his Detroit gym. He said the latter was so rusted on the track, it was nearly futile to even attempt it. At my regular gym, I use entire stack of 385# for calf Raises, and that's for 8-10 reps, occasionally I have people hang off the yoke too. But at the gym I was at yesterday, I wasn't even doing 200#...I'm just assuming it's due to the layoff, but still, that's a vast difference versus what I was doing on other exercises just coming back.

No doubt there's a big difference from one machine to the next. What's the new game plan?

No doubt there's a big difference from one machine to the next. What's the new game plan? No real plan of attack just yet. Basically what I'm going to be doing is P/RR/S again, and modify it just a bit unlike doing it how I've been. Again, just slowly add in some cardio after my workout and gradually bump up the time per session. We'll see how I look & feel before I make whatever changes I do. Today's workout for my Arms... Std. 1-Arm DB Extensions: 27.5x10x4 Flat BB Skullcrushers: 70x10x4 Std. 2 Arm DB Extensions: 90x8x4 1-Arm Rev Pressdowns: 50x12x4 St. Cable Curls: 50x12 60x12 70x12x2 HS Preacher Curls: 45x10x4 St BB Curls: 75x8x5 BM's Bisolater: 120x12x4 15min walk on the treadmill....
