Sounds like my offseason phase was pretty successful, lol. Paid for that workout today, tired dragging and sore. Started cardio tonight 10 mins on treadmill, 3.2 mph, 0.5 miles, 21 min on recumbent bike 9.8 mph, 3.3 miles. Wasn't too bad once I got going, didn't feel tired at all. Diet today . Morning I coffee, I donut- cheat- was starving and blood sugar was low. Afternoon- 1 can albacore tuna, lite mayo, 2 tsp, 1 can fruit, in water. Eve before cardio, small coffee. After cardio serving Metrx. Dinner- still deciding.

James....like Joel said...for me it takes aboout two weeks until I really start to "handle" the dieting. Not saying it is easy....it just becomes more acceptable mentally!!

The only way I can deal with the diet which started last month. Is to have a cheat meal for a few months the last Saturday of the month. Only two more Saturdays and it's on. I'm pushing for Mexican LOL

Totally ANAMALISTIC training James! I totally believe in your approach of keeping up the heavy training right up to the contest. I believe it keeps the muscles thick and dense.

Thanks for the input, guys. Dieting is the least fun part, even cardio is more fun. But cuts are what wins, so...

I believe in it for sure. I think it was implanted long before I started competing, as my idols early on, like Mentzer, Viator, Franco, and even Arnold to an extent pushed and pulled the heavy iron up to a week before or even closer. And, of course, as you pointed out, they had thicker, denser muscles come show time. I like the look you have in your icon pic, I think that reflects what you're talking about quite nicely.

Thanks guys! I wll try to get some new pics. I'm hoping that the heavy training does pay off in carrying more mass and density onstage, even with 5 months of dieting, the longest I've dieted for a show. Today- cardio 18 mins on treadmill. Up to 3.6 mph and 2 incline, 22 min on recumbent bike level 13. Meal 1 metrx, coffee. Meal 2 6 oz tuna Meal 3 half slice pie left over from cheat day, espresso. Meal 4 2 chicken breasts, yams, diet coke. Bw 255.

I don't think its a mistake to take a long time to diet for a show. In fact I think its the best approach! Look at how long Keith took last year preparing for his shows and Tim diets for long periods also! I dieted for 18 weeks last year myself and I was already in decent shape when I started. I think it all depends on the approach thats taken. As long as you diet gradually and lose the fat slowly I believe you will retain maximum muscle.
Skip Lacour, dieted for 8 months prior to winning the Team Universe. Its a big committment but heck we're in this thing for life! Might as well make the most of it!

I think its the best way. Especially for those of us who aren't blessed like some of the pros who are also on huge steroid stacks which change the rules. For us "ham and eggers" I'm convinced youre right. I hope to even GAIN muscle in the next 5 months. I like that last paragraph especially, Tim, can we put that as a quote or a sticky or something??
