I think I know ;D but no matter what it is you know we will support you 110%
I was given the go ahead to try the bike or elliptical, tried the elliptical today but after only 5 minutes my right leg started going numb on me so stopped and went back to the pool. It's still hurting so I think I will skip the pool tomorrow and give it a rest. I go for another MRI on Friday, not looking forward to it as I get really sick afterwards but at least I will be one step closing to getting this done and over with.

Tiff, Betcha' don't know!!!! Each step you take with your health issues is one step closer to to getting well!!!!! Do you get sick b/c the MRI is with contrast dye...or the closure of the MRI unit?

I haven't had a dye contrast one yet so it must be from being closed in so long and exposure to the radiation? Last one was early in the morning and all I had was a protein shake, this one is at 9 pm, the form doesn't say anything about not eating before the test so I will try to have something more than just a shake but nothing within an hour just in case I do get sick again. Nick is going to sleep over at a friends, I'll see if Connor will come with me. He can't drive but at least I will have some company - it's only 15 minutes away so I should be ok. I just hate vomiting for no reason - I mean if it was because I had just pumped out a super awesome work out then OK ;D

OK, LADIES/GENTS, HERE IT IS.....most of you know I have been struggling about what I want to compete in...fbb, figure or fitness.....I have decided and it is..........drum roll.................NONE OF THOSE!!!! Gotcha!!! I am pursuing...POWERLIFTING!!!!!!! I have been thinking about this, w/o telling anyone for quite some time...just sprung it on the hubby within the last week or so!!! I AM REALLY EXCITED and I did my first wo last night!!!!! It is a change for me....but I think it is going to be GREAT FOR ME!!!! PLUS, for Alexa, this is gonna show her that it is not ALL about what the body looks like...you can look great and be STRONG BUT NOT be judged on the looks.....I either lift the weight or I don't. My wo's are gonna look different b/c they are!!!! PLEASE any input or help is GREATLY appreciated!!!!
Last night was the start of a 4 week conditioning routine for my legs. All I did was 10 sets of ten reps for squats. Terry used to do plifting so he is helping me get started.
BB squats- 65lbs 10 sets for 10 reps!!!! I am sore but not as sore as I expected!!!!!! Next week I will add weight and try the same.
Tomorrow I have back and bi's. Sumo dead lifts-Terry says will need to do this style b/c my legs are sooo long. So we will see how that goes tomorrow!!!!!!

So...you came out of the closet?!? My wife will have a lot to share with you as SHE starts this same journey. Here are some things she has learned so far: Get cleared by your MD...Powerlifting is very different! Equipment: FLAT shows, not things like Shox that will absorb. Many go without shoes when they squat...feel the ground. GOOD lifting belt. The flexible Valeo kind won't work for a powerlifter. You'll need something to help support your core. These belts are also checked and measured to be within a certain standard at meets. Lifting shirts and things are things to check-out along the way. They say you can leift at lest 20 lbs heavier with a lifting shirt. Contest is different: IE: RAW vs normal. RAW means NO equipment. Start working on building a VERY strong core. Abs, lower back, etc. Keep a log of weight lifted. Use spotters. Technique is VERY important so that you avoid injury. Remember, you are not going for reps here, but how MUCH weight you can lift. Get a copy of the current records that are out there for your age/weight class...this way you will know what to shoot for. Go watch a powerlifting meet. BEST way to network, ask questions, see what it's all about. MOST powerlifting meets are drug tested. If for any reason you may be on some type of therapy, like my wife is (hormone therapy), you'll need a waiver. MUCH different than bodybuilding! Work on exercises that will strengthen your grip. You'll be using chalk...NOT lifting gloves and straps anymore! Different diet. Powerlifters need strength, so they eat a little more than we do, especially in the carb department. To keep your figure, don't forget the cardio. Very FEW powerlifters do a lot of cardio...ergo the "thicker" look. At the last powerlifting meet we went to, there were people in line eating pizza to go to the weigh in! Also, knee high socks were REQUIRED at the meet for the deadlift, so that you don't run the bar up-down your shin and tear it up. We actually saw a guy do this at the meet. Most of the powerlifters we've met have been great people. A LOT of couples working together, and always willing to help out and answer questions. Well...that was all off the top of my head! Hope it helps and motivates! GOOD LUCK! We are rooting for you...and for your husband to help you out too! Keep us posted, and keep in touch....you are beginning a new and wonderful journey....YOU GO GIRL ;D

Thanks for all the info, Frank!!!! Those are all things I am reading about and looking into. My figure is not going to change much as far as bulk. I want to compete in my weight class...118, around there. The women's classes go as low as 97lbs. I DO NOT want to be a heavy weight, in that class. My figure is gonna stay the way I like it!!! I would like to know where meets are around here. If you could supply that info that would e great!!!! Beckie......how did you know?

Frank, I live in the Akron area, so Cleveland area is obviously the closest for me. ;D
Today: second wo in my conditioning phase: Back and bi's:
CAN YOU SAY THIS WO ALMOST KILLED ME...OK, I AM BEING SLIGHTLY DRAMATIC!!!! Very difficult but I am loving this!!!!
sumo dead lifts from the floor: 115x 10 sets of 5 reps each. I got 5 reps for the first seven sets-then I got 4 for 8-10!!! One thing I need to adjust to is I cannot max out on my wo's, I need to go just before failure, so needless to say I was freakin' out a bit about the rest of my back wo: pull downs: 60x8x8x8 low pulley rows: 70x8x8x8
Bi's: BB curls with ez bar: 40x8x6x6 incline curls: 15 lb db's: 8x6x6x6
20 min of cardio!!!!

Looks GREAT Karrie!
Creatine...good idea....I prefer the micronized. Easier on the digestive tract.
Glucosomine: Another great idea. Your joints will thank you.
Another suggestion: Glutamine....Will help immune system, help recovery, etc. When I took it regularly...I didn't get as much as a sniffel for 3 years! Stopped taking it....got sick! Ergo...I'm back on it!
Cleveland area it is! I know there is a meet in March 2007. Brookpark I think, which is a subarub of Cleveland. When I get details, I'll send them along.
YOU GO GIRL!!!

Awesome Karrie!!!! I had a feeling that was it I'm like you, having a hard time trying to decide which category, figure / bb, I would do best in and if it wasn't for my back, and my height, power lifting would have been my first choice. Like Frank said, you either lift the weight or you don't.

Don't think I got it haven't been on much as it has been a ruff couple of weeks. Saw the ortho surgeon yesterday, he says surgery is pretty much my only option (fusion at L4/L5 possible L3/L4 and L5/S1) but will not do the procedure himself so is referring me to a neurosurgeon - more waiting time but at least it's a step in the right direction and a little closer to getting back in the gym. Keep up the awesome training!!!!!

Tiff, I just e-mailed you!!! I should have logged on here first to see if you responded!!! ;D Neurosurgeons are the best for handeling the surgery you need!!! Yes, more waiting, but with the knowledge that the surgery will be done right the first time!!!! The training is a BIG switch for me, but I am really enjoying doing something new!!!! Tomorrow legs- increasing the weight...10 sets!!!
