I must have moved or slept the wrong way cause my right leg is back to the point where I want to cut it off!!! Yesterday, while doing some cardio it got so bad my foot slipped off the pad so today I was back in the pool. I always wondered how many calories I burned while in the pool, so for Christmas Troy gave me a heart monitor devise that is water proof. Today was the first time in the pool since getting it and in one hour - keeping my heart rate in my fat burning zone, I was able to burn 536 cal. Not bad for an ol' cripple . Off to take a nap then bring Connor to the gym for LEG day. I love it that he is training, since I can't train myself, I have someone else I can inflict pain on ;D

I can't believe after all this time that my appointment with the surgeon is less than a week away. I am both excited and nervous. Been doing cardio everyday. This morning I managed to do 25 min on cross trainer before the aqua class and I have been able to increase my intensity but still trying to keep my heart rate in my target fat burn zone as I want to avoid loosing as much muscle as possible. With some changes to my meal plan the weight is starting to go down so I still hope to reach my target weight by my surgery date.

I cannot believe your appt is coming up too BUT I am anxious for you to just get this done, out of the way and get on the road to recovery!!!! ;D
I am sooo proud of you doing cardio and the pool. #bconfetti2sq# #bbravosmiley8hh# Even just doing that will improve your recovery time b/c you will not get as winded when in therapy. I think if you do keep with the diet there is no reason why you cannot hit your target weight prior to surgery.
BTW have you talked with the boys yet?? How have they been responding?

Haven't talked too much about it, figure it is best not to say anything until I see the surgeon and have more details. That way I will have more answers myself and can be better prepared to answer any questions they may have. It is hard to put their fears to rest when I don't no exactly what will be done or what time frames we will be dealing with.

Ran into the physiotherapist at the gym I have been going to, talked to him a bit and explained my situation. He knows, and works with both my ortho surgeon and the neuro surgeon I will be seeing. His main work is back injuries and helps many patients avoid surgery but from what I was able to tell him, and his knowledge/respect of both my surgeons, feels that surgery is unavoidable. Says he has never worked with a patient pre surgery (is that good that his clients are healed without surgery or are only referred to him after for rehab). Wants to review my MRI, and if the surgeons agree, would like to give me a few treatments and some exercises that I can do at home to (1) help ease the pain and (2) prepare for a successful operation and quick/complete recovery. I will talk to Dr McBroom when I see him next week to see what he thinks. Although I have a great chiro, I still do not have relief from pain so I am willing to try another approach as long as the surgeon says it's ok.

Very smart Tiff. Clear it with your surgeon first. I tried to post a note to you earlier, but lost it before it posted somehow..so I'll try again.
I just wanted you to know that you will be in out thoughts and prayers as you proceed. I realize this has been very hard for you and your children. But you are a smart, and strong woman in the 21st Century!!! You WILL overcome.
The surgery will be here and over in no time. Take your time recovering. Do what the DOC says, and TRY not to stress out.
I know we are all physically far away..but know that we are here for you...just a PC away!
Again...you will be in out thoughts and prayers.... Will talk more soon...

Check with the doc and see what he says...I would be surprised if he did not think it is a good idea. The more you can get your body moving prior to surgery the better you are gonna do!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Frank and Karrie, thanks for checking in Overall this week was ok, did my cardio everyday, cleaned up diet a bit more and dropped a few pounds. Had to be good all week cause there is no way I'm watching the big game on Sunday without some chips and dip ;D (my team is out so I really don't care who wins - just hope it's a great game) Was supposed to be heading up to Oakville/Mississauga this weekend and stay until my doctor's appointment but not sure what is going on now. If I still go, I will update on what the surgeon says when I get back. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Well, met the surgeon yesterday and I feel very comfortable with him. I think at first he didn't believe how much pain I was in and how bad things were, he comes into the office and asks a bunch of questions, then goes out, I change into a gown while he goes and looks at my films, comes back in and asked if I was sure I had the right xrays. lol. He than began to have me attempt to bend in all different directions and when he heard my back "snap, crackle and pop" and saw the tears start to roll down my face he knew it was the real thing. He said he is just used to his patients coming in looking like they have given up on life and knows people with no back problems who aren't in half as good shape as I am in. He is booking for April but is going to see if he can get me in sooner, is assistant will call me as soon as they have something worked out. One step closer ;D

We got your back!!! (sorry..had to day it! ;D ) lol, I only wish you had my back, then I would be the one in the gym showing the weights who's that boss (jk, would never wish this pain on anyone) I was reading the post about your daughter's tattoos. I have a few including a large bald eagle across my lower back. Unfortunately there is no way of avoiding cutting thru it but the doc did say he would do his best to sew it back up as best as possible. Troy already came up with an idea to fix it after, I will go back to my tattoo artist and have him create a band of ribbon across the incision and have something inscribed in the ribbon. I am not sure what it will be yet but I have a while to decide.

I received a call today from the surgeons office, they had a cancellation next week and I was the first call they made so Feb 28th is the date. I'm a little nervous as I thought I would have more time to prepare the kids and make arrangements for them, but everyone is stepping up to the plate and I know they will be well taken care off. My mom will come and stay at my place if needed, Andy (their dad) has offered to book time off of work to make sure they do not miss any of their activities and several friends have offered help as well. My sister will be my main visitor at the hospital as she live only 15-20 minutes away and I am sure Troy, and even his mom, will come and visit when they can. The next 8 days will be crazy, I have to go for pre-op, blood work and x-rays, make sure I have everything I need for the hospital and spend as much time with the boys as I can. To add to all the stress, my brother is in the middle of putting down new flooring on the entire main level so the house is turned up-side-down right now. Good thing is, there is finally and end in sight. I know it will be really tough for the first month after and then things will start to get better. I can actually visualize myself back in the gym before the year is over
