Invite everyone to check out my friend Lance's website www.freekfizzeek.comThe site is well designed and has some excellent photos and video clips. And a well written bio as well. Lance is an amazing athlete who seems to have peaked this year at 42! Won light heavies in Masters Nationals and was a few points away from overall. Will be back next year to defend class win and win overall, which will give him a pro card. He could do some damage on the Masters O stage for sure. He can still kick younger butt, finishing 4th in Jr National light heavy and 9th in a contentious USA light heavy. Lance is one of the few athletes around today who can nail a vacuum shot. His vacuum double bi is deadly. He is a dedicated and determined athlete and obviously I am very proud of him. Look out for him next year!

Gerry, I checked out Lance`s site and he is very impressive, with a hell of a resume`. I`m surprised I`ve never heard of him before. Do you know how he did in the NABBA Universe ? I tried checking Muscle Memory but strangely enough they don`t list this big show.Weird! I hope to meet Lance in Pittsburgh in a year and a half, hopefully not in the same class.j/k I`ll be in the over 50 class, and he`ll be with the youngsters!! ;D

Actually, Tim, Lance has to have webmaster make some corrections to that page. He did not compete in most of those shows.
Many of them he was there as an exhibitor and/or guest poser. He did compete in the Lee Priest show in Texas, winning open and masters, plus the others I mentioned above.
He was not eligible for NABBA Universe, he would have had to compete in National show. Nor was he eligible for Masters O.
I'm glad he is finally getting some recognition outside Texas. He should win Masters overall in 04.

P.S. Tim, if not mistaken, you and Lance both competed in 2001 Masters Nationals. Lance turned 40 that March and was making masters debut. He was 4th in the light heavy, and think Johnny Stewart won that class and overall to turn pro. Think you were 5th in lightweights.

Yeah Gerry, I did the Master`s in 2000 & 2001.In 2000, Steve Nesbit won the overall, and in 2001 Joe Palumbo won it.I don`t recall seeing Lance, but I was probably nervous.I was hanging out with Jim Karas,Gary Kamil,James Little ,David Wilson Jr. ,and a bunch of other great giuy`s.I beleive Johnny Stewart won it in 2002, and then went on to place in the Master`s Olympia. I think Dave Marinelli should have won the show both times I was in it.I talked to Joe Palumbo about Dave in NY, and he was very impressed with his conditioning.Of course my opinion may be a bit biased since Dave is an aquaintance of mine when I lived in Florida. In any case ,good luck to Lance in next years show, I hope he wins it.

Thanks for the correction, Tim. Got my years confused, must be getting old and senile!
Joe Palumbo (also light heavy) won 01 overall, and Johnny Stewart won 02 overall. Both of them have placed well in Masters O.
Spoke with Joe at Eastern USA, looks terrific. Complimented him on the photo of him with his new baby in Flex.
And I also respect Dave Marinelli. In 04 he can do the 50+ and 40+ divisions. He should be invincible in 50+ and I think it will come down to Dave and Lance again in 40+. Plan to be in Pittsburgh for the next show, would be great to meet him.

Gerry, I did Delts one day with Marinelli in Port St. Lucie Fla. where I lived for 4 years.I didn`t really know him at the time, but I knew who he was from some older mags when he placed in the Nats. and in the Couples Nats. .He invited me to join in on delt day, and I must say this guy was strong. He got about 3 good reps on behind the neck presses with 275 free weight, and everytime I asked him what weight he wanted on a certain machine he would say "stack it'.When I recounted this story to his current training partner in Pittsburgh Dave`s reply was "Well they made the stack for somebody ,why not me". He is an animal and just keeps getting better every year.there is an article on Dave in My Documents on PDF ,I`ll find out where I got it (can`t remember-senility) and post it for you later.Just check back!

Thanks, Tim. Look forward to reading it. No rush. I know that Lance has only good things to say about Dave and he speaks of Dave highly.
Lance told me that Dave greeted him in Masters pump room this year and said, "Well, Lance, looks like you got me this time." That was really gracious.
At prejudge after the regular class callouts, Lance and Dave were called out again for another comparison and each seemed impressed by the other's athleticism and sportsmanship.
Wish both of them the best on and off stage.

Thanks for the link, Tim. Had read about Big Al before. He is a great guy and will be back next year.
Great article about Dave Marinelli, love the part that he will compete till he's carried out in a pine box. Need that degree of dedication to the sport.
Soapbox time, have complained before that 50+ overall Masters Nat winner does not turn pro. The 50+ has gotten better every year. Sam McClung is a tremendous athlete who won 50+ overall in 02 and 03. He is better than some of the athletes who competed in Masters O. Since Masters O has an over 50 title, there should be a pro card in this category.
Dave and Lance are both pro caliber and should be recognized as such.

I agree Gerry.Sam has a great physique, and is certainly deserving of a shot at the Over-50 Olympia title.I can think of quite a few guy`s that would make some noise in the older divisions at the Master`s Olympia.Seems that if you don`t get a pro-card by the time you hit 49 you`re out of luck.It doesn`t seem fair.Where else do these guy`s go after winning their respective age group title in the Master`s Nationals? They should write to Wayne Demilia or Jim Manion, and see if this can be rectified.

Good idea, Tim. I sent an e mail to Wayne DeMilia through IFBB about it, and got what sounded like a form response (Thank you for your interest, etc.). Several months later, I tried again and got no response.
But maybe if enough of the affected athletes made some noise and started a petition, that would carry tremendously more weight. And it's a petition I would gladly sign as well.
Sorry, off soapbox now.

Anyone interested in more photos of Lance, check out his contest page at www.musclememory.comJust type in his name on home page. Also some contest photos on www.repetrope.com/men/competitors/index.aspand type in name. I rarely get such strong hunches, but I really think he can win the overall Masters National title and turn pro in '04. Remember, you read it here first.

Posted elsewhere, but this is great news for all masters competitors. Masters Nationals will now qualify two athletes as pros: overall 40+ and overall 50+. About time.
Would be cool to see Lance and Dave Marinelli turn pro in 04. And Tim in 05!
Now they should give Sam McClung retro pro status, since he won last two 50 overalls. He has nothing else to prove. When masters nationals was made a pro qualifier, that was done for Don Youngblood.

Thanx Gerry, but I highly doubt if I could ever turn pro at any age.Not being negative, just realistic.I don`t mind being kind of a journeyman type of guy,as long as I keep improving.Sam should definately get retro pro status .If he doesn`t, it`s a gross injustice,we`ll see what happens.I will be there in 2005, after some hard work is done.I`m also going to try to make the NPC North America`s, as I now hear that contest is being brought back again.Master`s division of course. To place in either show, would be a definate realization of my goals for me.

Tim, with or without a pro card I consider you a pro! And you have the ability to place in either of those shows, so go for it.
Sam deserves a shot at Masters O over 50 and mentioned this to Gary Udit as well. Hope it happens.
And feel convinced that in top shape, Lance and Dave will turn pro in 04. Plan to be at Masters Nationals to cheer them on.

Thanks for the kind words Gerry!I wish I could make it this year but I doubt that I`ll be able to.Good luck to Lance and Dave ,they`re both champs in my book.I`ll definately be there in 2005 with a lot of improvements .Since I will turn 50 the month before the show,I`m hoping to at least make top 5 in the "geriatric" division. ;D

Don't consider 50 division to be geriatric, Tim. And think top 5 is a very realistic goal. Actually, top 3 would not surprise me.
Last I heard from Lance, he was hovering around 250 and will probably be in maintenance mode till prep starts for Masters Nationals.
