Max, You don't have to necessarily "bulk-up" to get stretch marks. Stretch marks result when an increase in muscle and/or fat causes the outer surface of the skin to actually "tear" forming the scarring referred to as stretch marks. This generally takes place at the pec/delt lower insertion point, outer quadrant area of the gluteal muscle, and/or across the abdominal wall. I 've seen guys who were not in a "bulked-up"state, have stretch marks resulting from modest gains in muscle size, while other, much larger individuals didn't have hardly any. Women who have had children often experience stretch marks across their abdomen due to the large size increase, and it varies from one to the next how much scarring she may experience. You can see, as in so many other things, genetics probably plays the biggest role in this---the amount of natural elasticity an individual has in his/her skin is pre-determined genetically. Generally though, the larger the weight gain and the more rapid it is, will have some relation to the amount of scarring that takes place. Some recommend rubbing vitamin E on the area, saying it will help the scar to fade. In my case, I have found that over time they seem to "fade" to a degree on there own as well. I have also found as a general rule, that if an individual has tanned correctly and they have applied the right amount of skin coloring agent, (I prefer Pro-Tan), in the proper manner, that the stretch marks are not an issue on stage.

Masterchamp is right on with his advice. Stretch marks come when what ever under the skin grows too fast. They are no big deal. I have them under the arm and along side my tricep and a little on my chest. I never really worried about them.

I echo the same sentiments as well. It's about your skin and what it's able to take and how fast your grow.
The marks are from the skin stretching (whether from fat or muscle)... you don't have to get chubby to get stretch marks.
