Well I haven`t really posted much in the last few days because I`m feeling a little sick. It`s sub-zero temps here in upstate NY ,and my car sh*t the bed.It is beyond repair, and I live 10 miles outside of town ,and I know no one here. This means I can`t train unless I walk/thumb into the thriving metropolis I train in .So tomorrow I will bundle up and make the trek to the gym .Good part is after walking 20 miles I won`t need to do cardio.Bad part is all my lifts are up and I really don`t know if I can do this.I`m gonna try like Hell though.Just wanted to vent a bit as this is totally depressing! I`m not a quitter, but I feel like packing it in and going back home.

Tim,
It does sound like you are really stuck, I can't help but notice you said you do not know any one there, I am not trying to be a preacher, but maybe this is a great excuse to meet someone around you by getting a ride to the gym.
Just a thought, I may not have all the facts.
Good luck, I wish I was close enough to help you out.

Thanks guy`s! No I didn`t get the book yet Robert ,but I definately will. The reason I don`t know anyone here is that I have only been living here a little over a year, and it`s very scarecly populated until you get into town.My wife know`s a ton of people, some of whom I`ve met, but I don`t like having to depend on people I hardly know for a ride, or anything else for that matter if I don`t have to.I`m far from anti-social,in fact I`m quite outgoing as a rule. Most of the people that live up here look at me as if I have 3 heads, being a bodybuilder.I admittadly don`t have much in common with most folks here, but I guess this just might be the time to get to know them better. It`s a kid of strange place to me and I feel like a stranger in as strange land at times.Until then I guess I`ll have to pull my skirt up and walk to the gym ,I just hope I get a ride as it`s probably a 3 hour walk.Good luck to me! ;D

I can relate to the "move" Tim, after 30 + years in the Mid-West, I moved to the deep south ( for my wife), where anybody north of town is one of those Yankee's !!!. Like you I do not like to depend on anyone, and unfortunately, that has made me a little still removed from most people. Even after many years in the South. So get out there and get to know the people around you like your wife, because a 3 hour walk in the cold has got to suck !! ;D
P.S. This sounds like one of those " do as I say and not as I do" speeches ... ;D

Michael, I hear ya`,I also moved from my home state of Massachusettes to Port St. Lucie Florida and I was the epitome of the word Yankee! ;D Everytime someone asked me where I was from and I replied Mass. they`d immediately respond by saying Boston ...and they all called me son.In spite of having nothing in common with most of them I soon had some really good friends and they were all cool people. Here everyone is a logger or a farmer. Not that I have anything against their professions but I`m afraid that my manure and corn stories are not too plentiful. ;D I may be able to get to town with my wife`s friend`s wife(did that make sense?) a few days a week so I will possibly consolidate soome of my bodyparts together until I can get another car.I appreciate the feedback, beleive me as my wife think`s I`m acting like a kid but after all the work I put into my trasining and all the comebacks I`ve made over the years due to personal issues I`d hate to start over at my age.I`m going to be a walking thumbing fool starting tomorrow.I can hardly wait.

Tim, I really hate to hear about your luck. Would some feedback on the car help? I have been a car nut for over 40 years. If you think I might be able to help at all, let me know. If I don't have the answer, I have a lot of friends that I network with and I might be able to come up with some ideas. Let me know. Tim,
Life will turn for you. Before you know it, it will be spring time again. You will get out and meet some people with common interests (not everyone can be a logger or a farmer) and all of this hell will be forgotten! Cheer up my friend! All will be better before you know it.

Well Tim the weather up there right now is brutal, but you know what? Ain't a damn thing you can do about it except adapt you're normal rountine until you can get in the gym. You and I both know you're not going to lose what you have gained so far, it just feels like it because you're basically trapped and cabin fever is setting in not to mention seasonal depression. I know things have really been going well with your training and you feel like it just stopped dead in it's path...but because of things you have no control over. I missed all last week training because I ended up with a nasty lung infection and what made it worse was the fact that since the left side of my diaphragm is paralized that lung is compromised anyway. So what could I do? I tried to look at what that week off would actually do. One hopefully heal up my left elbow that has been giving me fits. I was running about a 100° temp so I thought, doesn't your body burn more bodyfat at a higher temp? Hey fat burning while I'm prone! I hadn't missed any traning in over a year and like you, felt like I was really on a roll...then bam! Lung Oyster city! In actuality I needed the time off. Most powerlifters cycle their training not going balls to the wall all the time which I do and I'd bet the bank you do to, we're just wired that way. So take the time right now for self examination, do what you can there at the house (pull the washer and dryer about 32" from each other angled back...and you have a nice set up for a Gironda dip!) chins on a rafter or if nothing else a tree limb. Make it a challenge to see just how many things you can come up with. As bad as you want to hit the gym...DO NOT TRY AND WALK THERE!!! Not in that weather! It's way too dangerous. I for one don't want to read a headline "Upstate New York Man Found Frozen To Death In Lunge Position On Hwy 1" Get that head up, you've beaten far too many bigger things in your life to allow mother nature to get you down!

ahhh that sucks! I know the feeling, I was at times feeling out of place up on the northshore of Boston. I missed Philly. TJ, I agree with with Jeff - don't attempt a 20 mile walk in that weather. I say you take a page from Chuck Sipes' book and try to set up at home. I'm not sure of your room but there must be some possibilities? I recall reading his articles on his garage training and talk about inspiring! At worst I'd sugegest you choose those bodyparts you have targeted as weak areas and find a makeshift (but safe) way to train them at home. Use this time to focus JUST ON THEM alla Franco after his leg injury. Soon enough the transportaion troubles will be fixed and spring will break. You will come out of it with improved weak bodyparts are your good ones will come back up to speed pronto making a better TJ! Hang in there brother. There's ALWAYS a way

Thanks a lot guy`s I appreciate all the inspiring words.I know you guy`s are right, but my obsession to train is stronger than my rationality I guess.I`m waiting for a ride as I type this so I can go hit legs .That`s one day down.I do have some weights in my barn and I will bring them into the house and hit delts and arms 10- sets of 10 presses ,curls, and french presses.ala Vince Gironda. If I can get there twice a week, I`ll do legs, then chest & back together, and the rest at home.My wife`s high school friend`s wife, said she`ll give me a ride all next week, so I guess my panic attacks were unwarranted.I hope!!Knowing my luck ,I`ll probably break a limb soon. ;D But you guy`s are great, and you`re totally right ,I`ve weathered a lot of storms, and my motto used to be "adversity makes you strong" ,if that`s the case I`m stronger than Hell! ;D You meet some great people in this sport, and you guy`s qualify!!Thanks again.

Damn. 10 miles to the gym, workout then 10 miles back in the frigid cold.
Don't end up like one of those made for TV movies I saw about a couple getting stranded in the Rockies or thereabouts.
Gironda stuff sounds like the way to go if you don't have much in the way of weights at home. You won't need any weight for sissy squats, for instance.
Hope everything works out for you. That was not a pun.

Thanks Bob! At my age if I froze and was encased in ice they`d think they found Cro-Magnon Man, or some other such relic! ;D I got a ride today ,and my workout was great, better than my normal "take it for granted" type of workout.I will get a ride tomorrow also.I only have a small bar, but have plenty of plates ,no DB`s .I do have 6 ,45 pound Olympic plates, but have no bar.I just feel so much better to be able to train, even if I do have to modify my routine somewhat.I always try to train my ass off, but now I will train even harder while I`m in there. Thanks to you guy`s for keeping me going, and getting me off my pity pot,I truly appreciate it.

Well Tim, how is the car thing going, in the above thread, you talked about working out at home if you did not get a ride on the days you needed one. Have you had to do that yet? If so, how have you changed up your work out. I train at home with just access to free weights, so I would be interested in how you got creative, thought it might help me. ( p.s. I am starting to really like this smiley face LOL )

Michael, actually I haven`t had to train at home yet.I managed to get a ride from my wife`s friens and did my whole body over 3 days time as opposed to the usual 4 day routine I normally do.I just had to combine a few things and cut a few sets here and there.I feel much better and definately releived about it.I hope I can do the same this coming week.I should have another klunker of a car in about a week to 10 days if all goes according to plan. I hope!! ;D I like this guy`s smilie face myself!

Well, this definately fits the title of this thread. My puter went haywire Monday evening and I had to wind up reformatting the hard drive and reinstall all my software etc.. Had a terrible time. Turns out my ISP was the bad guy. I had my telephone service switched over to cable Sat. and Monday they made some changes at their end. Bad thing is, it made my end screw up big time. After three nights of fighting this thing, I was able to get everything back with the exception of all my downloaded files, 450 songs and about 800 photos. But, at least it's fixed now.
