Randy,a lot of guys, after years of training, find they don`t have to use ponderous poundages to acheive results.
Back when I was fixated on going heavy,I would often see some freaks in the gym using what I would consider pansyass weights.................but they looked incredible.
Maybe he`s pre-contest and doesn`t want to get injured.

He addimitadly said that its not always about the weight, but the weight he is pushing looks like it is really hard for him and its not all that much is all.

It is my opinion that weight doesn't matter (to a certain extent). It is what you do with the weight that matters. I would much rather look like I can bench 500 pounds then actually being able to do it.

In Jay's numerous vids he has used some impressive poundages. In "one step closer" he does T-bars with 12-45lbs plates, in new improved and beyond he does inclines with 405, and 170 lbs dumbell presses. He strong just not "Ronnie" strong.
Then again Ronnie doesn't always use 800 lbs when squating, either.

Was it Vince Gironda that said its the way you work the muscle that counts? Leave the ego at the door etc?
Strength can build muscle but there are other options to stimulating the muscle to grow.

Yes there are, but he does also admit that one way is to overload the muscle by increasing weight. Quoted from "Unleashing the wild physique"... He says that more work in less time is another way. After much experimenting with both, I would have to say that the strength route is a much faster way.

i personally now believe in working the muscle and not moving the weight when you're a bodybuilder
when you're a powerlifter or a strongman you focus on moving the weight.
I am now slowly "reteaching" myself that i am bodybuilding right now...and being a strong ass won't mean much if you're not working and feeling your muscles working....exceptions however..would have to be deadlifts, squats, and compound movements like that.
Like now leg press..i used to do 5plates + a quarter on each side ...but i realize i can feel my muscle work alot more if i focus on the stretch and contraction of the muscle instead of focusing on getting 10 reps out of the machine and not worry about getting the deep stretches and contraction...and especially the mind muscle connection.
it may not be as impressive moving 2-4plates on each side of a leg press machine but if you feel your muscle working more compared to when you went heavier...is there something to it?
