This is great news for everyone who is competing in the 2006 Mr. Olympia -
The total prize money for the Mr. Olympia contest has increased from $480,000 to $546,000 this year. The money from the Challenge Round — which will not be included this year — and last year’s Wildcard Showdown, $60,000 in total, will be distributed among all the athletes.
First place: $155,000. Second: $90,000. Third: 60,000. Fourth: $48,000. Fifth: $38,000. Sixth: $30,000. Seventh: $18,000. Eighth: $17,000. Ninth: $16,000. Tenth: $14,000.
Eleventh and lower: $4,000 each.
(The combined total prize money for the Mr., Ms., Figure and Fitness Olympia competitions is $725,000.)

I agree that for the pros the increased payoff is a good thing, but, for everything they put their bodies through, the prize money still is pathetic!

Amen, Keith. And all athletes, male and female, should share in the increased distribution!

I think it is great the prize money has been increased and well over due!!! I know BB is a male dominated sport and I think the men should receive the most money, but I would like to see the women get a little more recognition not just with money but also in the magazines! I know FBB is in the tank right now, but for the women who still compete, I would like to see those girls rewarded better!!! Otherwise, I think it is great news!

Better, but so far from the income of the top pros in other major sports! But i guess that in the eyes of almost everyone, bodybuilding is not a major sport… or not even a sport! PS: Eleventh and lower: 4000$ each? They will have spend more money in protein powder during the 16 weeks contest prep!!! ;D

You'd think more supplement companies, etc... could step up to increase the prize money. Some of these companies make a KILLING off of the population and the fan base. It'd be nice to put a little more back

$4,000.00 for places 11th on down, is a decent payday. Meaning that at least they are compensated for their weekend efforts.
But the prise money should be a lot higher. $155,000. For first place is not as much money anymore. Granted I would love to win that but how much of that is profit for Ronnie (or whoever)?

Most footy players at the equivilant level of those bbers get paid that per week over here.
