Like how do the pros walk around with no shirt on...and have the abs kept tight?
Do they suck their stomach in...and that's how you keep the abs tight?

Max, If your bodyfat is low enough they'll show all the time. If you are in contest or near contest condition, there is no need to suck in your belly or flex them....they're there!! A distended gut is another thing altogether, usually a result of excessive GH use, combined with constant over eating.

what about during poses. I read from gerry's posing tips. He says keep abs tight and raise rib cage to look full.

Your techincally sucking in your stomach. So when your doing your posing your still sucking it in, hence keepin it tight, right? I really think sometimes you overthink yourself.

i always thought flexing abs would be like AB AND THIGH pose... there you would crunch down while blowing out all the air.
and keeping tight was simply sucking in your stomach

Max, You can flex your abs anytime you want..just contract them. But,again, if you BF is not low,you can flex all day and you ain't gonna see nothing! Gerry was probably referring to the practice of pulling in the abdominals on any shot with the arms overhead...front double, front lat , etc.,. Also there is a tendency to let the gut hang when someone is getting tired as you might do in a contest...beleive me, the pre-judging is a physical grind! When we refer to staying "tight" that means keeping the whole body in a flexed (contracted) state the whole time you are on stage, partcularly the legs and abs. John taught me that from the minute you hit that stage, everything is flexed, starting from the toes on up. Any "relaxed" shot ...front relaxed, side relaxed, etc.,...is NEVER a truly relaxed shot...you should be contracting your muscle groups throughout. And Max,..it takes practice...you won't truly understand it until you are lean enough to appreciate how you look when contracting all you muscle groups when "relaxed". Max, I know you said you're not oone of those guys that just gets in the gym and trains...but, I gotta tell you..I AM one of those guys and I've done just fine. This is not rocket science and someone DEFINITELY can overthink things. No one gives you a written exam on the precise mechanics of every aspect of every exercise when you are on stage. You are judged soley by your physique,,,which is a product of how much ball busting work you have done in the gym, and the way in which you have conditioned yourself.
