TONEY FREEMAN TAKES HIS 1ST PRO TITLE IN TEXAS After three years in the pro ranks in which he never placed higher than 5th, Toney Freeman has vaulted to the top of the pro ranks with a stunning win at the 2006 IFBB Europa Supershow this evening. At 6'2" and 289 pounds Toney scored one for the big guys, who previously this year had not fared as well as their more diminutive counterparts. His combination of size and shape, highlighted by excellent conditioning, was enough to over come 304-pound Quincy Taylor, a hometown favorite and the heaviest guy in the show. Quincy's second place finish was one higher than last year's at this event and should signal that he too has arrived as one of the sport's elite. Johnnie Jackson finished in third with one of the densest and most powerful physiques in the contest. Although he was somewhat disappointed with his placing, Johnnie vows to come in even crisper next week in Montreal. Johnnie was voted bodybuilding.com's "People's Champ" via online polling and received a check for $1000 from Bob Cicherillo and Dan Solomon as his reward. Coming in fourth was Darrem Charles. You have to go back to 2003 to find a show other than the Olympia or Arnold Classic in which Darrem did not place at least second. Darrem was uncharacteristically smooth from the back but rest assured, he will tighten up by next week when he too competes in Montreal. Art Atwood took the fifth spot, looking freaky big and extremely dry. He was both elated and disappointed with his placing: elated for returning to first callout status after a couple of years mired near tenth place, disappointed that he didn't qualify for the Olympia. Look for Art to harden up in the weeks ahead as well. Rounding out the top six was Bob Cicherillo's dark horse, Silvio Samuel. The Spaniard got rid of the Dream Tan that muddied his physique during prejudging and showed a tight, pleasing muscularity that was hard to ignore at night. Bodybuilding.com also presented a "Best Performer" award for the athlete who received the greatest response for his posing routine. King Kamali managed to best the rest with his trademark moves. Kudos go out to Ed and Betty Pariso for putting on an excellent weekend of events, all executed smoothly and professionally.

Wow... I'm REALLY the first to reply here?? Here are my comments: Toney Freeman- good job. Quincy Taylor- I like this guy- congrats for 2nd. Darrem- what's to be said- this guy is one of the best for mass and symmetry!- I dont' care how he places- one of the best of his body type around! Dennis Wolfe 7th? ?? and behind Art Atwood??? I think quite an outrage- I think Dennis is "new guy on the block" and the judges were stupid in not really giving him a fair shake- I dont' believe in this "paying your dues" thing. He's built amazing and seems like he only gets his waist in smaller and tighter. David Fisher-- not in the same class as the others but really think it's great he's made a comeback-- and I gotta way this guy always was ripped and still his- have you seen those glutes and hams? George Farah- unpopular with some- I think he's a pretty good guy. I gotta say where DennisWolfe and Darrem placed I'm kinda questioning the "New IFBB" or whatever it's been called- the move away from bloated waists and lines over mass. Seems like they change what they want based upon who shows up. Geeze... I sound like a tota a-hole grump.. I'm not not... just unusually opinionated for a Sunday morning. Mike That's my quick 2 cents worth.. or maybe 2 bucks worth??

I'm glad Toney won. He has been stuck in lower than deserved placings for years. Quincy looked good, I didn't understand that one either-his placings throughout the years. Darrem, haven't seen enough pics, but the side chest above, left something to be desired compared to his usual self. Dennis Wolfe, I would have liked to seen place higher, as I would have Johnnie Jackson (this guy is what I'd like to look like but with better calves!). But all I can say regarding the other placements, I hope King Kamali gets it through his thick head that he sucks! Stop talking trash, stop injecting motor oil in your weakpoints (arms and shoulders mainly), and retire!!!!![/b]

Not surprised to see Toney break through. Was just a matter of time. Very happy for Toney and Quincy! Olympia bound, as is Johnnie.
I've seen Darrem look better. Maybe he is competing too much. Know there is money involved, but you can't peak for everything.
Was pleasantly surprised by Art! He improved a lot and looks better a lighter weight. His structure is what it is, so he just has to make the most of it.
Saviour was recently featured in MD and has a huge future. Farah was maybe a place too low.
Much as I like King, he was off. Hope he comes in tighter for Montreal and AC.
Interesting show!

King needs to STFU and get his act together or go join the WWE and take his smack talk there. Most people when they become pro they continue to rise and rise.. him... down and down every year.
