It's been real tough on me, tho I have not talked about it much c'uz I don't want to seem whiney. Tho I love bodybuilding and transforming my body, the time and devotion it takes has left me isolated, especially in the recovery community where to a great degree it's considered another form of "acting out" that can lead to abusive behaviors.
WellI have a new sponsor who is a bodybuilder! he's just starting his competitive career but he "gets it" and can relate to the challenges, temptations and stresses.
We met up for our first sponsor/sponsoree activity at the Total Package show. He's more knowlegeable about local NPC stuff, and I've more info on supplementation and diet, so there is some synergy.
Nice to know after being isolated even in recovery that there is someone to connect with.
have a great one!

I'm still pretty new to lifting Brock, but I take my hat off to anyone who can dedicate themselves to a BB lifestyle week after week, year after year. Good on ya, man.

I no longer go to meetings.....I find that the gym is a form of therapy for me and it definately keeps me on track.
Living way up here where I live and being the only bodybuilder around does cause me to isolate some but I don`t mind it much as I always have my wife and dogs and plenty to do,as well as training people though my clientele since moving here is nowhere near as large as it used to be.

I too, like you guys, am the only bodybuilder in my area. The only one. I have nobody to chat with in person. Thank god for the boards. All my contest prep was conducted via pm's and emails. It worked well though. I had a great coach.

I find that this is a common theme- alot of guys in the sport feel isolated at times. I live in a busy metropolitan area of Denver, lots of lifters around but it's really tough to find people that are as dedicated or prepared to take bodybulding to the extreme that I want to - so because of that I find good bodybuilder buds hard to come by. I also find that alot of guys into the sport are a little introverted or at least stay to themselves- I do. ... I may be making assumptions but that's waht I seem to find.
LIke Massiv said most of my bodybuilding info, conversation and motivation come from the boards like this one. Actually this one is THE one. Tons of good info, all the good, serious people here make it great.

I'm glad you've found someone who 'gets' your situation and lifestyle Brock-I think all of can relate to that on one level or another. I have plenty of friends that understand my lifestyle but not many that would understand the emotional issues I've had over the past few years.

Thanks Beckie! The really cool thing is I no longer feel the need to justify my building to anyone. When someone asks why my response is "because I want to" and leave it there.

Great to hear, Brock. You never had to justify your lifestyle to anyone. Like you say, you want to do it and that is sufficient.
Having a kindred spirit in your life will be a big plus.
