From watching Arnold's movies and Van damme films. I loved Arnold's movies especially. He just looked huge. Eventually i joined a gym and began training 5-7 days a week for 3 hour stretches. Then i got to see 'Pumping Iron.' I loved it and became hooked. It gave me the inspiration to train harder and expanded my knowledge about bodybuilding history. Plus seeing Arnold in a different light was pretty cool. The owner of my gym at the time then showed me how to train right and instructed me on what exercises to do and how many sets to perform. This moved me in the right direction. Over the years i have bought various books to keep myself motivated. Among the best books in my collection must be John McCallum's 'Keys to Progress'. Its great and would motivate couch potatoes to get their ass's to the gym. Plus watching 'Pumping Iron' a thousand times a week aint half bad either. ;D

I was inspired to train by a local bodybuilder in my neighborhood named Chris Gordon.Later on I saw Dave Mastorakis at the local YMCA, and I was hooked.A kid in school actually taught me how to train correctly, as I was doing almost everything wrong. He was a protege` of Chris Gordon and that`s how I got to meet Chris. His name was Royal Gomes and he had a great physique. It has been a long hard road for me with a lot of bumps, setbacks, and plenty of adversity ,but I wouldn`t change it for anything.Afterall who wants to be just another couch potatoe? That`s too easy.

Robert,
I got my inspiration from watching Arnold as well. It was Commando that did it for me. I had never seen arms that big, they looked to be out of this world. I had a powerlifter write a program for me. I did benches and squats and some pull downs. My bench barely moved up but my squats skyrocketed.

Tamas, When "Pumping Iron"first hit the scene,me and the kid I trained with, took a 3 hour bus drive to Boston to see the movie. We watched it twice, but if allowed to watch it more times, we`d probably still be sitting there in the theater watching ;D!!We are actually in a scene where Katz is introduced to the crowd in Holyoke Mass. This psyched us up to the max, and our training took on a new level of intensity after that.Arnold was a huge motivator for a lot of people. He literally took bodybuilding out of the garages and basements, and made it main stream. At times I wonder if this was really that good for bodybuilding.

i was short fat and was getting beat up alot well because I wouldnt shut up either lol.
mind you I started the summer I was going into grade 8 which was 1983.
I got one of those york set ups with the booklet that had (unknown to me at the time) pictures of Reg park who turns out I used to watch as hercules on those movies that played on tv as a little kid along with other stuff like Incredible Hulk, Shazam, spiderman, batman, superman(with Geroge Reeves lol).
I always wanted to be a superhero as you can see, still do lol.
Anyways I did it all wrong you know whole body everyday for 1-3 reps no warm ups, you name it.
By the time I was 17 I moved to the big city and joined a gym. Back then it was heaven.
Training is something I have truly had a love affair thru out my life, good and bad, thru high school, work, family ups and downs, during addictions, during recovery etc
If i had an ultimate goal to pattern myself after any people who are in the iron game that inspre me I would have to say Dave draper because of what he overcame, and how he conducts himself today.
He is not the only one I admire but out of the bunch its him the most.
